hey, since i am preparing for GD, i thought it would be nice if i could get some tips. i have always admired especialy Steve Buddle\'s way of painting faces, and so i asked him for the colours he used. but do you guys use feathering on faces?
or do you just do layering?

all help will be greatly appreciated

I use feathering/layering, but hopefully better painters will give you some real help.:D

Klute \'taught a class\' in this thread (Klute\'s class) of how to paint skin. Maybe that can help.

I tend to use layering and glazes to build up my faces.

Have you read the articles here on cmon on the subject? I find them pretty helpful.

For colours.. One combo I\'ve used with some success is: Pallid flesh + dwarf flesh + a tint of green ink for base. highlights mixing in pallid flesh and then mixing in white for the final highlights on some places. Shadings mixing a bit more green and spme scorched brown into the base mix.

One thing that could liven up the face more is to paint stubble.. described in an article by Allan C here on cmon. Another thing is to add a subtle blush to the cheeks by mixing in for example red gore in the mix and doing very thin glazes.

I am also a big SJB fan.

For medditeranian skin, start with a base of scorched brown. Cover this entirely with a 50/50 mix of SB + snakebite, then gradually add snakebite, then add bleached bone. That\'s what I did for the imperial guard guy in my gallery, I think it turned out well.

recently, in my last 2 minis (with eyes) what I\'ve noticed is that the extra effort on eyes really makes the mini live. I\'ve found that putting a reflection on the eye is an outstanding extra touch which takes it to the next level (see my avatar or here).

Other than that, my skin is done with layering/feathering, which I\'ve described here

I tend to like to use elf flesh with shadows of both dark flesh and shadow grey, and highlights with bleached bone.

I tried to use glazes on my Ogre but I messed it up a little.

Could someone take the time to explain the theory about glazes please? What consistency do I want. What effect do they achieve? HOW should I go about using them. I am mainly referring to painting skin.

I have read the tutorial but using them has just added more questions.
