Painting Flames?

Hi,

I tried to paint flames on the robes of a wizard by wet blending from red to yellow. To be honest it does not look very good.
Is there a better way to paint flames? Or do I just need more practice and wet blending is the way to go?
How do you paint flames?

white-yellow-orange-red-black . Wet blended into a gradient.

white undercoat helps.

I would think flourescent paint would work better, because it is brighter than normal colors and will pop out from the rest of the colors. There\'s been a discussion on fire, and the best way is to have a white center, and work outwards using yellow, then orange, and red. Keep in mind that the blue center only occurs in gas fires, and wood burns yelow-orange. Hope that helps!
