Painting flesh quick but good?

Hi everyone,

I\'ve started with my Warriors of Chaos army and the first regiment I\'ve started working on are my Marauders. This is the way I have painted the test model:

Tallarn Flesh basecoat
Dwarf Flesh drybrush
Gryphonne Sepia wash

However, I don\'t like it because it has to much stains which look weird (even for Chaos). I didn\'t use to much wash. Should I switch to the Devlan Mud wash because it matches the flesh colour better or should I use other colours? The Tallarn Flesh basecoat is a must have!

Try Ogryn Flesh wash. It is a lot softer and works very nice over a Tallarn basecoat. Just highlight again with Tallarn and add in some Bleached Bone or Elf Flesh for further highlights. If you check out my Bretonnian thread in the WIP section, that\'s the fleshtone recipe I use.

x2 on Tallarn > Ogryn. I then use Tallarn again, then Tallarn + Menoth White Base, then pretty much pure MWB on the high areas (Bridge of nose, over eyes, chin, etc).

yeah if you want really quick it depends whats you undercoat them... if your doing white, then give it an elf flesh basecoat an a ogeren flesh wash. black... do talard and then the wash and then some highlights. its always a bit harder with black

I find for small areas of skin on rank and file miniatures (Imperial Guard etc) that the following process works really well -

- Undercoat Chaos Black
- Basecoat Dark Flesh (several thin coats for even colour)
- Paint a layer of Dwarf Flesh over the above leaving Dark Flesh in the recesses - don\'t blend or feather the edges, just leave a clean line between the two colours.
- Paint a highlight layer of Elf Flesh onto the Dwarf Flesh, stick to noses, knuckles and such areas. The idea is to create very sharp, stark highlights that look cartoony.
- Finally, mix a 50/50 mix of Baal Red and Devlan Mud washes together. Water that mix down 2:1 with water and apply very liberally to your flesh areas. Let it dry and don\'t rush it, then re-do the ink again. Finished.

Because you created such stark highlights with the Dwarf and Elf Flesh colours, the wash you apply last knocks them back and blends them into the basecoat. Give it a try!

:)
