Painting glass

Hi all,

I mentioned this in my WIP, but decided to make a new thread and reach out to a larger audience.

I'm painting a mini who is carrying a bottle in each hand, but I have no idea how to paint realistic glass. I think I'd like them to be green, but different colors could be nice too.

Can anyone help out with a step-by-step for this?

Glass is a bit like NNM, but your using green paints... I painted some glass bottled using an airbrush years ago (year it was on a 2d flat surface but the process is the same, I don't have an example, sorry)

I'd start with a black base work in some dark greens, then glaze up to the lighter glaze and use very fine white highlights and very very thin white glazes to reflect patches of light to make it look reflective.

if you wanted to make it look like its filled with a liquid, I'd use purple for that :)

not really a step by step by I hope it helps

you must you glazes paint though you really need do see the layers of paint through each coat

You're painting the Dave zombicide mini, right? He's holding two unlit molotov cocktails, so you're not just painting a glass bottle, but a glass bottle filled with liquid. There are a lot of examples of liquid filled vials in the CMON gallery. The dark eldar are a good place to start. Below is one I was working on a while back. If you want to do a green bottle, I'd use a light green for the empty top part and then a darker green or a green mixed with a bit of brown for the liquid filled section. Don't draw the liquid line perfectly straight, it curves down a bit in the center. Give it some slight shading and then paint on some white reflection lines. I suppose you could also just gloss coat the bottles instead of painting on the white reflections. The effect is difficult/impossible to get right from every angle, so get it to look right from the front and the back, then do your best with the side, top, bottom, etc.

James Wappel did a real nice version of the figure. Take a look at how he did the bottles

Bailey once painted a GW mini???!!! Holy Hell!!!

No good advice for you, but I think it's a good question and I am glad that you posed it.
Demihuman did a thief with a clear potion vial that looks incredible. Check his gallery.
