Does anyone know what oil colours to mix to get skin tones?I know there\'re commercial skin tones available, but not in the wee town i live in. Thanx beforehand!
Burnt siena + raw sienna + Ti white. Mix in equal parts for basic skin color. Change the percentages to vary tone and add burnt umber or some green or red to get other variations. Add more white for highlights.
@ritual: lol,Anders, when do i have to pay a \'consultant fee\' for all the tips you gave me on miniature painting? Thankee mate
@ elouchard: Thank you very much.I\'ll get these colours and try my hand at oils.
alternatively, titanium white, yellow ochre and burnt sienna, with the same colours added as suggested by Elouchard in tiny amounts to add coldness warmth as needed.
As Anders said - commercial skin tones suck, far too pink usually
@orb:a big thank you to you as well!
Furthermore: Do i dilute oils to about the same consistency as acrylics? And i use \'white spirit\' for this.Or does cooking oil give me a longer open time?
Thanks agai,folx!!
make a base coat with acrylics in a flesh colour. Some folks use a yellow ochre colour. let dry
mix your oil paints undiluted on some card; leave for a while and some of the oil binding the pigments will be absorbed which will help in making the paint dry matt.
paint the face with the paint, sparingly. With a clean dry brush, \"wipe off\" the excess oil paint. Repeat until you have a smooth almost stained surface.
now you can start to highlight and shade the face; tiny dots of white can be blended in, and conversely burnt sienna/burnt umber can added to shade. All carefully blending making sure you don\'t just make a messy flesh colour on the figure.
That\'s just one method I was taught way back when..........haven\'t painted in oils for years though
