Hiya\'s

I have this figure I would like to paint , its a Draconic figure ( forgot the name ) with a different pair of wings than what it was supplied with , these are approximately 4 CM\'s each , not large by any standards , but large enough to be a pain when painting in this sort of technique . Anyone have any tips / tricks / photographs or sites that cover larger areas , or will this technique not really work ? Any advice greatly appreciated , thanks .

I\'ll post the figures name when I remember what it is . Ok box is like 2 foot away in a drawer :p it is from Magnificent ego\'s the figure is called , Balthazar , only mine has larger wings . Cheers .

Take care .

Ok Dave, are you actually asking how to paint the wings in NMM Gold?
(If it\'s the wings I\'m not getting the concept, probably me being a bit thick though).
If it\'s just the armour then that\'s a different matter and is easily described.

I know you\'re an artist on canvas, so you will be familiar with the concept\'s and use of washes. My basic suggestion is that you use a brown undercoat, (GW Bestial Brown) Then something like Vallejo Yellow Ochre, Goldbrown or Ocre Brown as the first colour.
Use a very thin wash of something like Raw Sienna, to establish the shadow. This is a bit on the red side for some taste but if you are trying to make an organic item look NMM Gold it might be more helpful to be in the red end of the spectrum.
You then need to gradually work up your highlights as normal placing the brightest point (Flare) at the topmost point nearest to your intended lightsource.

Hope that this makes sense and helps.

PS Great to see you back in the forums. Hope everything is OK with your daughter.
Mike.

Hiya Mike

Yeah its those wings , smaller areas are not that much of a problem , it\'s the larger organic areas that worry me . I\'ll check out my Valejo - GW paint sheet , see if I have the right paints and give that a go thanks .

Thanks for the welcome back . Daughter is ok today , been sent home twice in the last couple of weeks though , bad tummy upsets , a bit worrying with what she went through , it has been suggested it could be from the flesh knitting together that is causing the pain . We will see next week , she has her appointment with the ultrasound people , gonna check her over . Fingers crossed . Thanks again .

Take care

Rembrant did some real nice NMM. Look at some of his stuff. For larger areas I would do the blend-fade in what might be called a parabolic curve. In the middle of the area have the blend progress slowly but as you near the edges have the light to dark progress \'faster\'. Getting darker or lighter in a shorter distance. Sometimes having the brush strokes show just a bit can make the NMM look like brushed metal. Some of Rembrants stuff has this. Good Luck.
