Painting Leather

Can anyone point me to a good tutorial on painting leather jackets? I\'m having the worst time on a Hordes Baldur Stone Cleaver and a Warmachine Rhineholt. All the colors I\'m using are coming out to look like chalky burlap rather than shiny leather. Any tips? I\'d put up some WIP pics, but I don\'t have a digital camera and usually have to go a borrowing to take photos.

start with a dark red (scab red works well) and blend up to brown.... or use brown with some red mixed in and simply lighten it a bit for highlights

I just did a darkskinned Snotling and after highlighting alot I put a wash of brown over it and it really made the color richer. Leather can have a rather smooth, almost shiny surface. You might do it NMM style using browns and such.

my run of the mill recipie for leather is just snakebite with fleshwash over the top. shade and hilight before the wash. use other browns/reds for color variation. for black leather i use shadowgrey with black wash + variations. id love to hear what the \"masters\" say, as i have seen some really lovely leathers on this site and i havent been able to replicate the effect.

Option 1: Mix in Brown, Chestnut or Flesh Wash inks to you paint colour to raise the sheen of the paint.
Option 2: Wash over with highly diluted inks of above selection.
Option 3: Buy some Vallejo Smoke and wash carefully over the painted area then re-highlight.

Option 4: Don\'t listen to me, Try something else entirely ;)
