Painting lessons learned?

In the last week I\'ve learned two important painting lesson.

1) Never use static grass in the same area you paint. You may THINK you have all of it cleaned up but you never do.

2) If you\'re going to splatter paint something be careful which way the toothbrush is pointing. I got an eye full of paint a few minutes ago. Not pleasent.

What painting lessons have you learned?

My lesson:
Put your minis away when you close the GW-Black-Ink pot! I once or twice closed the pot with a \"click\" and little drops of black ink flew away and ON my painted mini! :cussing:

done that with inks before now, nothing worse than having a weeks worth of work ruined in mere seconds.

never blow static grass of your mini over the static grass container. you dissapear in a cloud of green with eyes and mouthfuls of the stuff.
really really funny to watch tholol

always keep your mini away from those people who shake or tap the excese water from their paint brush, because water is always going to leave a dirty watermark when it dries on you lovingly layered yellow:no:

Always make sure the lid is all the way on before you shake the pot

The one I still really need to learn is to give superglue enough time to dry completely before trying to paint over it. How many more brushes is that going to cost me???

never cup your hand around a freshly glued mini and blow really hard thinking that the super glue will dry faster that way. Super glue fumes in the eyes burn.

Never put painted minis next to your water pots as spatter seldom improves your paintjobs. Having said that it didn\'t do this guy any harm when it went all over his banner. Makes it look more mouldy I reckon...

I\'ve learned to just get it over with and at least once a year pick the brightest pot of paint you own and just throw it all over the floor, making sure to splatter it everywhere, because it\'s gonna happen eventually

I still haven\'t learnt anything. I still continued painting when my eyes were getting tired and it was becoming more overcast outside. So, there goes another day wasted as I have to redo everything I did today.

Mine if Superglue doesn\'t want to come out of the tube, don\'t keep squeezing it until it eventually explodes all over your hands.

As I\'ve managed to superglue my hands to my jeans, superglue minis to my hands and superglued both hands together.

Man it\'s painful trying to get the stuff off

Actually, I never use static grass at all, period under no circumstances. Precisely because of the issue you (probably) experienced. I strongly recommend SILFLOR products especially what they call Prairie Tufts. 2mm looks great on 25-32 mm minies. You have absolute control of what goes where and no waste at all.

As for the lessons....

1) never leave oil thinners on the table when you have several 5-6 year old kids running around.

2) When you shake dropper bottles with paint make sure that the cap is actually screwed in all the way lol

Wrap a paper towel around those bottles before closing them.
Heck, I keep a paper towel around mine constantly as it\'s developed a bit of a gap that I can\'t quite close... so shaking or knocking it over is a bad thing...

My lesson: try not to put your stumpy fat fingers in any wet paint or wet areas on the model... you\'ll invariably transfer your fingerprint to whatever you\'re working on.

Here\'s a superglue tip for all you unfortunate souls: Water makes it set faster, but much weaker. Thus, if you drop some on the table, drop some water on it. It\'ll be easier to scrape off. DON\'T use this tip to try to make the pieces attach better. They won\'t.

i have learned to never get into a painting contest against draongforge concerning osl.

because i will lose.

Make sure that the Dremel is turned off, has stopped spinning, and has had enough time to cool off before you go to change the bit, especially the tungston burr bits.
