Use a smaller sponge!
hehe - you could try almost anything for that sponge effect - it doesn\'t need to be exact, and if you keep the shades fairly close to the base if you do muck up it shouldn\'t be that noticable and will be easily corrected.

Also - if it doesn\'t look right, cover the lot with a wash of the basecoat and start layering again - this will provide you with an even MORE layered look too

I\'m not sure I\'d make the armor look like marble, would be waaay too heavy and impractical, but it\'s your army. I do think that link to the marble tutorial would be very beneficial to my limited basing reportoir, though!

If so, send me a PM or e-mail at rg@raginggaijin.com and I\'ll send you a step-by-step.

If not, ah well then.

@Bengoodall: Realm of Chaos: \"The Emperor\'s Children have retained some of their former organization as Marines, but have altered it to suit their loyalties... The Chapter name has been retained unchanged throughout the Legion\'s exile. Successive Legion Commanders have taken pleasure (unsuprisingly) in reaffirming the Legion\'s title. It has become a direct and grievious insult to the grandeur of the \'false\' Emperor and his staid Imperium.\"

I can continue if you wish. I have fluff dating back to Rogue Trader days up to current.

The book also discusses the First Founding Chapters, (key word is Chapters), as do every book dealing with Space Marines and Chaos up to the current \'dex. The EC had 30 Great Companies in their Chapter prior to the Heresy. Though the Chaos legions did not have \'successor\' chapters, they still remain. As well, the Chaos Space Marines who served during the Heresy that still live take up the mantle of leadership for their scattered Companies.

If you read the books as well, you\'ll know that CSMs have no hesitation in using Loyalist geneseed to create new recruits. Even Honsou was looked down upon because he wasn\'t a true Iron Warrior, but a CSM created with Imperial Fist geneseed.

So though the Chaos chapters were broken up, they were not destroyed and still live on.

The miniature, btw, is my EC Chaplain. She acts as a Chosen or Asp. Champion.

I dont see your point at all.

They werent called chapters in the first place, they were the legions, the term chapter only comes from the index astartes.

And your quote is talking post heresy anway.

So I dont see how Im a fool, youve gone from talking about word bearers, to talking about emperors children, and got your times all mixed up, so dont send me messages like that.

Can\'t Understand Normal Thinking?

It\'s spelled out. The moniker Legion and Chapter are used in similar manner. Again, reread the quote from the first edition rules, as well as the current, and you\'ll see the Emperor\'s Children, as well as the rest of the Traitor Legions, were based around Companies, but their groups were called Chapters and/or Legions. Seems a bit of a point to quibble, but then again, I\'m only going off of written verse.

As well, you replied after mine, without quoting the OP. Hence my confusion, but the point still stands.

As for the Word Bearers, it\'s his game why not let him play it the way he wants? I mean seriously.

And as for your last comment: lol

Your grandad seems like the kind of guy I like to hang out with.

Hes not my grandad, thats what we call him, and hed eat you for breakfast.

And I really dont like pedantic gits.

I dont spend good money on stupid books from games workshop, Im not that much of a geek, cause apart from everything else, your another american fuckwit reading books on a subject that doesnt exist, and taking it all as gospel.

You ask anyone how flawed the fluff is.

I use Vallejo Model Colors for my range of purples. Start with Hexed Lichen for the basecoat. (I use my midtone for the basecoat because I shade and highlight over that. )

Once you have an even coat of Hexed Lichen, pick out Royal Purple and shade the recesses and under-bits, like where shadows would naturally fall based on your lightsource. I have my shading a bit runnier than my normal mix; almost like a glaze, but not that much. It takes a few coats to get it as dark as I like it, but I\'m blending a lot easier. Once you are happy with your shading, move onto highlights.

Use Warlord Purple and Squid Pink for your next highlights, in that order. As you highlight, keep the pinks at the highest areas so the purple doesn\'t become too pinkish.

Final highlights are with Skull White, thinned down like the shading colors.

I have a video on my site that shows how I wet blend and feather blend, which may help illustrate how I do this whole process. It\'s a Real Player format for codec purposes, but I will have another format in Quicktime by the end of summer. (Cross your fingers!)

Hope that helped! If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me via e-mail. :D

1. Doubt it. (Grandad that is.) You definitely do not know me. ;)

2. Then don\'t tell peeps how to play their game. The OP has a bitchin\' idea for an army, let him play and paint as he likes. Even if it doesn\'t fit your idea of what the fluff is all about. Or you\'ll get a tried and true fanboy to point out the flaws and get in the OP\'s corner. :flip:

3. Yes, I am a GW fanboy. I admit it openly, and have prolly put Jervis\' kids through college at least once with what I\'ve spent on this damn hobby. LOL! Having said that, I\'ve played both WHFB and 40K for years, so knowing the history is part and parcel of the roleplaying that coincides with gaming. (Yes, me and my mates have storyline based games. We don\'t play to crush or dominate our opponents outside of the tournaments.)

4. Personally, I\'m looking forward to what the OP comes up with. Chances are it will inspire someone to take another direction in their miniature art.

5. Group hug. C\'mon. :D

Maori dancing club?

Hes one of the old school, not the new boys, and hes called grandad cause he retired, and they let him go, rather than the usual deal.

And cause on the crew, hes older than most of us.

\"My dad could beat up your dad\" :p

Come on people - has everyone got \'roid rage or something?? lol

Seriously - people having a go at each other online always makes me laugh.

If you have a difference of opinion - so be it - PM each other if you wanna threaten and posture, but the forums aren\'t really the place.

@ BG - I\'ve never had a problem with you, so don\'t take it personally, and I wouldn\'t accuse people of being \"American twats\" really as there lots more of them :D

@ RG - You\'ve come back after a long leave of absence and have already pissed off 2 people! I myself can\'t understand how, as reading through the posts you don\'t seem to be being particularly vindictive or rude, but maybe I just have more tolerance...

ANYWAY - I like the original idea and I\'d hate this thread to be hijacked by bad feeling.
