Hi.

I did a marble base (some folks say it looks like granite, but I meant it to be marble) and posted it on coolminiornot. It\'s ID 12028. I posted a very brief description of the technique in the comments.

You could pick up a book on faux painting marble (for stuff like fireplaces and walls). All you have to do is use miniature tools. What follows is a snip of the explanation I posted with my marble base.

--begin snip--
I base coated with GW Codex Gray across the whole thing, opaque. I have a much abused and splay-bristled #2 brush that I used for stippling Ghostly Grey in areas across the top. Then a little veining with Chaos black using a long-bristled 18/0 liner (this imitates the feather I haven\'t got). Then more Ghostly Grey with the same liner. A little speckling action with diluted colors and the same splay-bristled #2, and finally a bit of veining in Shining Gold. A couple of coats of varnish to protect and shine, and voila.

--end snip--

At some point, I\'d like to go through the marbling technique on a larger piece (like a pillar) and do an article on marbling. Maybe someday.

The important part is knowing what kind of marble you\'re trying to imitate, since there are lots of different colors and vein patterns available. Once you\'ve got a bit of a sample to look at, you can see better how to imitate it.
