Painting Motivation

I paint for fun and because I was feeling that I could be doing something better in the evening rather than just sitting down watching the TV.....so now I sit at my table and paint .... whilst watching theTV:smile-big:
As for motivation - I would really like to get a demon at the UK GD, not fussed really any colour will do:laugh:
The only time I don't feel like painting is when I am ill, which is normally a good indication that I am actually ill.

Motivation has sort of changed over the years. In the early years it was simply a means to get armies onto the table (back when you couldn't use an army in store unless it was painted). That moved on to tournament armies with the motivation being to create something a little unique (back when each game in a tournament you got a 'painting' and 'originality' mark from your oponent. I sucked at the game but made a few quarter finals just off painting!.....which I guess is why they changed the scoring system

These days it's more like 'zen and the art of painting'. It's something nice and relaxing, a form of meditation if you will, that allows me to unwind at the end of the day. I think I'm finally starting to take my painting seriously as well, and motivation is easy to come by when you're trying new techniques and seeking certain results.

Ah, but at least now you're accomplishing something while you're watching TV.

It makes me happy when I finish something so that is why I actually want to finish things once I start them. Why I start them? Because when I have a nice idea or colorscheme I want to make it reality.
That is what makes me paint Its also so I can relax and forget everything around me.

Seems like my motivation (for painting and modelling) is very similar to most peoples, I spend all day coding websites and applications and find that if I also come home and spend all evening on a computer that my brain wants to melt out of my ears. I have what can only be described as a hangup in that I can't sit down and do nothing - I have to be doing something - preferably with a point and ideally creative. I also enjoy learning new things - so painting is for me enjoyable to boot
I'm currently working on getting a Space Wolves army up and running with the aim that I can use it as a social thing to get together with a few mates who have moved away over time - so social activities is another motivation

It used to be armies, then competition pieces and currently, nothing is motivating me, I haven't finished a single thing this year... started a couple, but nothing finished. Work and house is sapping all my freetime, so about all i can manage is collapsing in front of the box. I need to get my mojo back!

I paint to relax, I paint because I enjoy it, and, as cheesy as it sounds, I paint so I can become constantly better, well, hopefully, haha.

i paint to cover up the grey or black primer on all those minis staring at me from the shelves above my modeling bench. normally, i build scale models on commission, but the house we're in right now is too small for me to set up shop. so, instead of large armor models, i paint minis. it keeps me off the streets, and the wife knows exactly where i am- either at work, sleeping in the parking lot at work, or in the computer room slopping paint. badges? badges? we don't need no steenkin' badges! (substitute motivation for badges)

I've never really enjoyed painting figures, I just like the finished product which is the only thing that kept me going. I find the process just turns into a technical exercise and that bores me. I very ocassionally get a figure that inspires a painting blitz, but not very often these days.

My motivation is it helps me stay sane and keep my head out of Iraq. I painted alot there to but mainly I love finishing a mini and getting people comments on them.
