I\'d like to start a saim-hann eldar army when the new minis become available but painting red effectively is not my string point. Anyone got some tips using GW paints.

Yes, i have the perfect way. Its the way i would do my Saim hann.

- The amour is painted with a 2:1(water) blood red over a white undercoat,

- Then Chestnut Inked for shading, put plenty on, all over the red.

- Then Paint the blood 1:3 red on the amour, leaving the ink in the gaps. you will need to do about 4 thin layers of red. Build up your colour.

- Blazing Orange highlight first highlight.

- Fiery Orange highlight second highlight.

- Golden Yellow third highlight

and your done. Thats the way it is done in an old GW masterclass.

If you dont like the way the ink shines in the gaps, wash a thin downed scorched brown over the hole model, before painting the first layers of red.

Granddad!
you first need to establish what you want your brightest highlight to be
if it\'s yellow/orange the above method would be OK
if you want Blood Red (or equivalent) to be your brightest then you need a slightly different approach
Irene Turner has an excellent article on painting red in the tip section over at Tiny Souls
