Painting schedule 2006

Well, 2005 is almost over and we have a fresh new year to look forward to soon.

Looking back over 2005 it was an ok year for me. There were the usual ups and downs with work, home, love life and social life, but it generally balanced out.

However, one thing I was most dissapointed about was my lack of productivity as far as painting goes. I completed 6 minis, none especially great. I started about 20, most of which are languisihing on the bottom shelf of my cabinet. It\'s not that I\'ve lost my desire, it\'s more a motivational thing. So, with a new year just around the corner, I have decided to take action, I\'m making myself a 2006 painting schedule. Only the first 4 months to start with, as my whim can change faster than the wind. Anyway...

JANUARY - ORC BLOODBOWL TEAM
14 minis. This is a fairly big project for a 1 month deadline, but I\'m getting a headstart. During the 6 holiday days between christmas day and newyears day, I shall clean, convert, and prime all 14 minis, and paint the one large multi-part mini (the troll). This will leave me 13 small, single piece minis to finish in January, should be ok.

FEBRUARY - 4 CHAOS CHAMPIONS
1 per week. Dunno exactly what they\'ll be, but 1 will be the WFB Slaanesh champ on foot, and 1 will be a 40k Khorne bezerker type. The other 2 are optional atm.

MARCH - CHAOS DWARF BLOODBOWL TEAM
14 minis again. I\'ll have to see how likely this is, hopefully the orc team will go well and provide me with inspiration.

APRIL - =][= AD MECH WARBAND
4 minis - Techpriest, Cyber assassin, Praetorian, Skitaari guardsman. This will be the most ambitious project to complete in 4 weeks, but I\'ll gradually clean and convert the minis between months 1 - 3 to get a headstart.

So that\'s it, hopefully my weak mind will have enough stamina to motivate me. If not, I shall not return to these forums, as I will be unworthy to call myself a painter (unless I achieve an acceptable amount of what I have planned).

If anyone else feels the need to set themselves some goals, feel free to post them in this thread. I shall be updating with regular progress reports (either weekly or fortnightly/bi-monthly, depending on progress).

Rightio:

Jan - Painting up my remaining Custodian Guard and Sisters of Silence for the 40k Doubles Tournament. Hope to have most of them done by the end of \'05, but we\'ll see lol

February - I\'ve got a half finished Priestess of the Moons bust sitting on my desk, hopefully get that done in Feb

March, April - New tau get released, yay :D. I hope to get the last few of my original Tau done (just a few drones and a devilfish) plus add some of the new units if the rules are half-way decent

June, Mid July - Add more Custodian guard stuff to make them into a 1500pt force for the UKGT 40k Heats

Late July, August, Sept - Golden Demon. I\'ll have to make the yearly decision of going for quality or quantity. Haven\'t even got any ideas of what to do yet, but if Large Scale model is back in I\'ll probably do something for that since it\'s my favourite category

Wow, so I\'m fully booked until after GD next year. Still, lots of nice fun stuff to do in that list. Oh, there might also be a new Mordheim warband or BFG fleet thrown in there somewhere if I go to the Call to Arms tournament again

Shouldn\'t be too hard. You got 7 in 2005.
I got 10, though I painted more, so I might push that up before the end of the year.
I have a horse to finish for my wife before Christmas (frosty the snowhorse). The week after I might be able to get something done, but I\'ve got a thank-you gift to do for Supervike and a group of 10 zombie pirates to do as a commission. I\'m hoping I can get through that in the first quarter. I don\'t plan beyond that.

My to-do list....

-Finish full scale commission Khorne Army
-Paint 4+ entries for the Baltimore GD (likely a lot of the Khorne army)
-Paint 4+ entries for Chicago (this is a maybe... depends on how Baltimore goes)
-Paint my Bretonnian Army
-Have 5 9+ miniatures on CMoN

I have a rather large to-do list... :D

Interesting thread. I love planning; if only I spent as much time achieving as I do planning I would be a great painter by now. Nevertheless 2005 has been a good year. I returned to painting after a 16-year break to fill my leisure time in my retirement. I set a target of 100 minis with a wide variety of problems to ensure I practiced all the techniques. I managed so far 96 minis and my technical skill has now surpassed my old achievements. My target for 2006 is 5 minis per month of the best quality I can achieve. I intend to finish the coming year with an instantly recognisable style of my own. I am aiming for realism through a balance of colour with the scale of the model as I find the cartoon-like style of current competition entries, especially when accompanied by NMM, too garish. The star painters in 54mm and above using oils and/or acrylics would never get anywhere in competition if they painted like the Golden Demon (GW) stars. It\'s time to bring this approach down the line to 28mm painting.

I want to see pictures of these.

I like setting goals!! it\'s pretty much how I opperate and motivate and push myself.

I think for 2006 the goal is to actually make it to 1 or 2 games days with a fair compliment of entries for each.

Also continue to experiment and produce about 1 mini a month trying new things and pushing my own style and technique.

I\'m optimistic about 2006!

PS Wolf Fang, according to your logic, you might have to hurt me :(:(:(

Ok, this is fun.
I admit that I spend most of my time thinking about painting, but never get the time to do it.
Still, this next year this is what I would like to finish:
- January: Entry for Fozzbozz painting competition;
- February: Mini Vault and Cmon competition, a submission for each;
- Until the end of the year: Lord of the Rings chess set (32 pieces).

There\'s no way I\'m going to finish that last one, even though I\'m thinking of sacrificing some quality so I can have it finished.

Well, this was fun.
I dreamt of doing all sorts of stuff;
- a Spyrer gang
- some more Tomb King units
- a Llanyfh or two
But if I am lucky, I\'ll get only the Spyrers done next year - and that\'s by the end of January.

I\'m marrying my gf in April, and then it\'s study, study, study until the end of October at the earliest.

2006 paint time.

Good thread. Very motivational!

I haven\'t painted anything this year (2005). I attribute that to the fact that I moved to another country to live and got caught up with my work and studies. I\'ve also moved houses three times. Lame excuse I know.

Anyway, I\'m now settled and will paint a miniature up for the \'Works Of Heart\' fund raiser. This is certainly a great cause.

Well it\'s off to work time for me. Come 9:45pm tonight I\'ll be painting over at at my girlfriends house in the comfort of my new paint station.

Just Lovely.

2006 is going to be a great year! ;)

For me I only have a few things to do
Jan: Finish ME6 and CMON6 figures (about 4)
Jan/Feb: Finish painting unit of Ogre Maneaters, 2 butchers and convert and paint 4 iron guts.
Mar: Start on GD entries 1 for each section. Start building and painting Rhinox riders.
Apr: Convert and piant 2 units of 20 knoblars. Start work on general for ogre army. Build a display board for minis.
May: Continue with GD minis. Go to tournament and hopefully win best painted army.(I have won every second year for te last 6 years)
More painting more painting etc.

Also I will be a Freak by new years as well.

One less post to go.

Wow, that\'s not going to be easy, but good luck! It\'s a laudable goal :)

I am aiming for realism through a balance of colour with the scale of the model as I find the cartoon-like style of current competition entries, especially when accompanied by NMM, too garish.
Just don\'t convince yourself that \"realism\" = basecoating with drab colours and not doing eyes, like certain painters have done in the past lol. Anyway, again a laudable goal, and very challenging.

The star painters in 54mm and above using oils and/or acrylics would never get anywhere in competition if they painted like the Golden Demon (GW) stars. It\'s time to bring this approach down the line to 28mm painting.
Just keep in mind that you\'ll never be able to be totally as subtle as the 54 mm+ painters, 25/28 mm will always require some exaggeration, I think. Anyway, good luck with this plan, it sounds at least like you\'ll make yourself a better painter if nothing else.

My goals?

January:
- finish ME4 mini lol (about 2/3 done)
- finish my Terrorist (almost done now)
- finish CMON contest mini

February
- finish ME6 mini

... it\'s a start :(
