I got the gandalf on shadowfax over a year ago now and have been scared to attempt to paint it because of the sheer amount of white on it (been swayed now cos of ROTK :p). Has anyone got any ideas how to do the horse in particular? Thanks a lot

When I did Shadowfax, I just painted him white, shaded with grey washes, then put many coats of white back over the \"highlights\" (i.e. almost everything that isn\'t a crease or shadow). White is hard.

My mounted Gandalf. Just do a gallery search for \"Gandalf the White\" and you\'ll get lots more...

Hi I did this one and it really is mean.I did a white base coat with a very light grey wash to pick out the detail. The shade was a very light grey.Remember the best Shadowfax ive seen are nearly totaly white. The main problem with this mini is that youll never get the score u deserve for doing all that white:|~
I know.....BTW id for mine--38447

I did a shadowfax who looked pretty good, an\' I reckon the trick is blending. Every where you can see a crease in a slab of muscle, for e.g. the forelegs, paint a thin line of grey into the crease and blend it into the white very nearby. Then for the muzzle you can paint it, either, black/grey or flesh toned; both look good. Then you also have to blend this in a bit. BUT! remember that nothing really has a completely smooth transition from fur to bare skin, so add a few streaks of flesh or fur, just to show that there is a dividing line. For the fur you can do what you like, personally I think that it looks best darker than the skin to add a bit of contrast to the model. I would show you a picture but my brother covered the horse in pva glue to make him look shiny!

I say fur as in the mane and tail, not fur on the body - that\'s white, believe it or not

Shadowfax has a grey muzzle so that should be a key feature of the face. The mane and tail are slightly more yellowish than the colour of the body. Maybe use bleached bone mixed with a tiny amount of yellow and highlight with white for the mane and tail, and use a grey basecoat highlighted with white for the body colour.

Edit: Here is a good pic of a shadowfax http://www.coolminiornot.com/?id=41015
