Painting Statues/Bronze

I\'m trying to convert a few models into statues for some bases that I\'m working on, and getting the color right on the test scrap sprue isn\'t coming on too well...

Anyone have a good method of painting statues, preferably in some sort of bronzey color?

Have you tried painting with a base coat of a bronze metallic, then washing with brown or chestnut (or a mix) ink? When you apply the ink put it on pretty heavy then wipe it off of the high spots to bring the highlight bronze color back out. I\'ve been meaning to try the idea with a darker bronze mixture paint as well but haven\'t had the time.

Hope you find the answer you\'re looking for!

I\'d approach it as Slidedog suggests.

Remember that bronze tarnishes green like copper; you might try playing with some greenish washes and highlights as well.

There was a WD article about this. They undercoated black, then drybrushed green, then with metallics. They left just a hint of the green showing to represent corrosion.

i read that article

Yeah they did a statue of the old khorne beserkers if i remember correctly. so obviously the paints are GW.

They primed it black followed by a base coat of jade green. Then they highlighted with tin bitz followed by a highlight of brazen brass(or was it.???), anyway it was a basic lighter highlight from the tin bitz. ill check anyways and correct it if im wrong! hows that you get any fairer than that.

hope that helps.
