it depends upon the quality of the painting.
i paint most competition quality pieces in anything from eight hours up to forty depending on the model/converting and freehand.
it would be nice to see some pics of your minis.

you should be worrying about the quality of oyur minis not the time it takes you to paint them. i can paint a crap mini in 6 hours easily! are you painting to sell or to game with? your work is nice just a little rough. better blending would help and, as you suggested, thinner paints.

i used to paint fast before i started painting seriously.now it takes me ages to do a 7 ish model i normally spread this out doing a bit a day

The quality of your work is reflected by the scores in your gallery, this in turn is probably due to the fact that you are painting fast and not taking time to learn the techniques that will improve the finisehed result. It is worth taking the time to try new ideas, like thinning your paint, gradual highlights and that sort of thing.
Post WIPs and ask questions and read the articles. The time you take is reflected in the end result, More time =more care=better looking mini when you are done.

The models you have done are great for gaming standard an after all that\'s what the models are for..
However for display standard and competition pieces there really are some techniques that cannot be achieved without spending a bit more time..To be honest though sometimes I find my comp pieces take longer purely because I spend a lot more time studying the model and looking at where and what the next colour I put is going to be..
Never worry about how fast you paint your models just worry about wether or not you like the job you\'ve done or, wether or not you are enjoying it...
