Painting too many orks

Cake or Death?
Has anyone, upon finding themselves painting a sizable space ork force, ever have the sudden urge to shoot themselves for taking on such a massive and boring undertaking?

pffft, try playing fantasy. My O&G at 2000 points typically has 170+ models!

And yes sometimes I have gone to bed with a .45, a bottle of Jack Daniels and one bullet asking myself the same question.:)

Hahaa - Yep.

I\'m in the middle of crawling my way up to 200 models - instead of drinking after, I drink while I paint, that\'s why you usually see glass-o-Guiness on my painting bench in most of my wip photos. :D:drunk:

Ha! Like YOU can talk! Paint ANYthing lately?lol

I had to give up on even collecting some O&G, as I\'m trying to do a Snotling army. Yikes.

Postponing that for now and working on Eldar. Fewer models...;)

Mix up the skin-tones. Look at people, and the variety of skin tones people have. Why not the same for Orks? It\'s fantasy, they can be many shades of green, even blues, or reds. Browns and greys would be good too. Some variety might make the task a little more enjoyable.

Good point! My only observation is that on the table TOO much variation in skin tone can leave the army looking hodge-podge and visually unappealing.

But just a little variation certainly make the mountain sized task a little easier to climb!

LOL!

Yes, my best friend and his wife convinced me to try to get back into wargaming, specifically WHFB.

So I go to their tournament, and the only thing that really excites me is snotlings.

Not GOBLINS or ORCS, but snotlings!

So after collecting around 60 or so of those and realizing it\'s not enough with 3 pump wagons, 2 spear chukkas, rock lobba, couple dozen spider riders, giant, some orc chariots, doom diver, and a couple of really old kits like the goblin king chariot and orc man mangler, etc. I just had to say \"good lord, what did I get myself into?\"

Like I said, I put that on hold for awhile. Haven\'t even THOUGHT about painting it, as I was still assembling the army.

Indirectly Donna, that\'s a GREAT idea! Nothing says \"random\" for a goblin army like 30 or so different paintjobs from children!

[Uberdark] \"Kids, we have a new art project for class today...\"lol

I would TOTALLY switch up the colors, but I\'m painting this for a store army, and they need it to look like it does in White Dwarf (at least, as much as my skill allows), so as to attract the younger players.

It\'s not so bad really. The new orks are cool looking, and have a lot fewer fiddly bits than they used to. Now my gretchin army in college - that was nuts. But I\'m still glad my client is patient with me right now.

I have a 3000 points+ O&G as a comisson.
Now I\'m wondering....geeze, what did I get myself into?

Oh, he only had like 10 chariots, 20 black orks, a zillion goblins....

And I said I could have them done in a month!

*ruefully wanders back to her painting desk*

Can one ever have too many orks?

I\'m currently not working on my army due to living in a tent and having no light to paint by - however, once things improve I will go back to aworking on em -

And the individual units will have matching skintones, and be \"Themed\" within in the overall them of my army - but only a few of them will be greenskinned - I know I\'m a heretic.:D

Steelcult- I am intrigued, do tell more!

I have a unit of white painted savage orcs from my past. I did \'em up after the \"smart\" tribe from \"Quest for fire\". I\'d like to hear more about yours.

Am doing what I call the \'ollywood Mob -

Based on movies and such - My kommandos for example are the A-Team - with \'annibal Smif, \'owling Mad Murdork, B A Barrakus, Da Face Ork, and Da Ork wif No Name cause de was only 4 guys on da show.

The only bunch close to finished (all painted, needing basing) are the \'Credible \'Ulks - lead by their nob, Bruce Bannork. And they are probably the only green orks in the bunch.
