how do u guys paint veins on things like orcs, dwarfves etc?...

i would think it would just be a base, highlight then a thin wash of the flesh base colour or is this the wrong approach?

colours would also be helpful. im doing an orc at the minute.

thanks:D

For a pale skin, I like using some very, very thinned Shadow Grey or even Regal Blue. Paint the veins on very lightly, then go back and glaze over with the skintone. I remember this is how the artist painted the live-size Gollum prototype for the LOTR films.

I\'m not sure what color Ork veins would be. Probably something like Midnight Blue or maybe Scaley Green would work.

I guess i see two different approaches here

the first one is what method of painting would you use to make your mini look vascular IE bodybuilder ish

The second version is how do I make my mini appear to have deoxygenated blood in his veins

This depends on what effect you are trying to get.

i think it would be more appropriate for an orc to look vascular, kinda like varicose veins with a slight bluey tinge to show orcs are not natural:)

Having not painted any veins, you might try making them as reverse lightening bolts. And I\'m referring to the colors, not the shape. Instead of being white in the middle, and darker at the edges, swap them and be darker in the middle and lighter at the edges.

Not a lot of help, but all I\'ve got. Besides the obvious Google images for veins.

Not to be contradictory, but wouldn\'t that make them look more concave than convex? ???

I want to say, that if the veins were ABOVE the skin surface, yes, what I wrote would be the wrong way to paint them. But, since they\'re UNDER the skin, the edges would be less distinct and thus lighter (aka, more skin tone).

And having read what Dan11 wrote, I was thinking the opposite. The varicose vein-look threw me.

Ahem. So, yeah, do the opposite of what I wrote, and give it some highlights.

I would think painting thin lines of purple on the flesh base coat then covering it as usual would work. But grab a base and paint it... Trial and error is fun! And you never know what you can actually make... until you try.
