NOT WHITE, YES WHITE !

The trick is DONT paint them white ! Yep ,I am not joking .
If you look on my gallery at \"The White Knight \" you can see a model that looks white but is actually base coated a warm pale grey. Although hes a military mini painted in HUMBROLS the tecnique is the same.
Here s the mixes in Citadel colours;

BASE COAT :

White;

dash of Graveyard Earth ;

dash of Black ;

spot of Blood Red;

Highlight by adding more White ;

Darken by adding more Black;

Extreme highlights pure White !

BINGO !

GOD bless .................VINCENTI

For GW paints here\'s two easy options;

Bleached bone base

Space wolves grey base

Dependant on if you want a warmer colour (Bone) or cooler (Wolves)

I\'ll echo what vincenti said.

If you\'re painting an army though and want stuff fast, here\'s what I do for knocking out loads of great table-quality stuff.

-Prime white (do two thin coats of primer. Don\'t try to make it pure white or else it will be too thick, just try to get an even, bright coat)
-Airbrush (or just paint it on thinly) Kommando Khaki or Space Wolves Grey. Choose if you want a warm shade or a cool shade.
-Wash with Gryphonne Sepia or Shadow Grey (GS for the warm white, Shadow Grey for the cool white).
-Mix up a spare pot with 75% White and 25% of your basecoat color. This will be very close to white but not all the way. Built your highlights up to this and stop there. This will allow for some contrast with the final highlight.
-Finally go in with pure white on the very edges.

Something that is really enforced with 2d art is that nothing is ever pure white. Even white will have highlights, so in order to account for that you must slightly darken the rest, otherwise highlights won\'t show up. Don\'t ever use just grey for shading, but introduce warm or cool colors for shadows.

If you\'re painting a display model, I\'d tend to shade down with glazes from white, rather than highlight up from some off-white colour. It takes longer, but the finish you get would be smoother I reckon.

There\'s not a single white highlight on the armour - it\'s all done with glazed shading.

I\'ve been painting some white marines recently, they vere pretty fast to paint and I think they came out over all pretty good. They are by no means display, but as I\'m army painting ATM I had to find something better than layering up from a black/dark grey undercoat.

White basecoat - black wash - drybrush white - codexgrey wash - drybrush white - \"highlight\" with a glossy white.

The one with the spear is painted layering up, the other two with the above process

Yummy, kudos.

Can\'t help but think a bit of highlighting to the bottom edge of some or all of the chips would be a good thing though.
