Painting GrumGutz Ork Warboss Head WIP

Hi, this is my first go of this so... fingers crossed.

This is my first full head sculpt and I've already got some paint going but its not really where I want em so WIP.

This heads for a Ork Snakebites-ish Warboss. If you've any suggestions go ahead. Not really satisfied with the skin so far, fairly chump stuff atm.

For a first sculpt, that's bloody awesome! The look on his face is brilliant.
As for painting, perphaps serevar thinned washes to blend in the highlights with the shading, and then either drybrush very, very dry, or very subtle blending to have a smoother tansition between shading and highlighting?

Oh yeah, I was really pleased with myself too, I'd just cracked open the silicone tools I'd heard about on here from ebay, and bam! This guy came out really well.

Helps when you've studied up a bit, before digging in. Kinda why I'm sorta at a block, need to see where I want to take this guy and what I need to get to accomplish the effects required to make em work. Really helps to see what other people have done, and steal ideas to play with.

There are a lot of subtle variations in the skin and I'm sort of a bum painter atm. and I really want to get this guy to a spot where I'm as proud of the painting as I am of the sculpting.

______

I've seen some orks where the lip is a more fleshy tan color and I think thats where I want to take that...the chin I think I'm going to scrap n redo completely.

I like the idea of washes, but I've had inconsistent results.
