Paints and Paintbrushes

By the way, since no one seems to have addressed the brushes part of your question, spending some money on good paint brushes and some brush soap will help your painting considerably.

Synthetic brushes are good for fast painting and for poking into recesses, but the tips will curl, and the painting experience feels different.

I\'d recommend spending the money on a good kolinsky sable brush. Winsor & Newton Series 7 (normal or miniature), Raphael 8404, Da Vinci Maestro, and Escoda Tajmir are some examples of good brands and lines. All of them are slightly different in size and shape, but all are quite good and a step up from the best GW brush.

You will need to go to an artist supply shop to find them.

You should also spend money on some brush soap and use it religiously (followed by a dollop of hair conditioner).

Ok thanks, is there a particular brand of soap i should look at?

Thanks

I use Master\'s Brush Cleaner and Preserver as well as Pink Soap (with a picture of the Mona Lisa on it), but I don\'t know if these are available in the UK.

I would ask at the artist shop for a brush cleaner suitable for acrylics and watercolours.

Winsor & Newton makes a Brush Cleaner and Restorer, but it\'s more of a deep soaking type cleaner. Useful, but I don\'t use it for day to day cleaning.

Ok thanks a lot i\'ll look into it.

I think i may have had a Winsor & Newton brush a year or two ago that i bought at an arts and crafts store, if it is that brand i remember it being my most trustworthy brush so i\'ll definitely take a look at those :)

Stay away from the Winsor & Newton Cirrus brushes. They are \"kolinsky sable\" brushes, but very disappointing and low quality. Too soft and the point is rather poor.
