Paints drying out.

So . . after a sizeable investment in paints, I have read here about paint drying out in the jar. I would like to know what people think about time frame and how to handle it. I have see talk of putting drops of future in the paint and shaking it to help stop the drying out. How often should this happen.
It\'s not black or white that I am scared for. It\'s the less oft used colors. I would hate to open a jar six months from now and find a solid block. Also it seems to be the GW jars drying out. I have all Reaper Pro-Paints, has anyone had this happen to them with these jars?

Thanks,

Seeing as how I only have one bottle of Reaper Pro Paint, I can\'t comment on them drying out, since it hasn\'t even changed in the three months I\'ve had it.

To keep my GW stuff from drying out, I check the ones in the current bottles regularly, and keep the paint out of the threads as best as I can. If they start to harden up, I add some water, give it a shake, and then pour off the excess water on top. That usually will hold them up for about another month or so, provided they don\'t get paint built up on the threads in the lid or on the bottle... then they\'re screwed.

If you can pick up the older style GW bottles, I recommend doing so. I have a ton of them, and when the colors run low, I replace them with the current color from the new GW range by pouring the new paint into the old bottle, and trashing the new crappy bottle (on average, you can fit two bottles of the new paint into one bottle of the old style).

Can\'t say I\'ve ever had GW paint dry out in the pot before! It can go a bit gungy when you get down to the last dregs, but a spot of water solves that problem.

Well it helps with gw paint to shake every time you use the paint. Also make sure there are no rdges of paint on top of the screwpart of the paintpot, it allows air to get into the pot:flame:

What about GW inks? I went to use black ink the other day and it was condensed down to a gelatinous cylinder! dam! and in EVERY shop I\'ve been to that color is all dryed up!
And woe be unto thee who gives a generous shake to a GW Ink in the new bottle. Christ what a mess!

Got the shakes

I mostly use Vallejo paints now BUT I am careful about the GW paints I have because I use them less often and don\'t want them drying up. I NEVER shake my GW paints because once the paint gets up in the threads it causes such a big mess. Instead i mix the paints in the pot with a cabob stick, occasionally add water before stirring.
When using the paints I open the pot, stir if needed, transfer an amount out onto my pallet ( using the stir stick ), water it down to the consistency I want and close the pot.
Works for me...

Dry paint

I have pretty much the entire line of GW paint and they stink. I used to have the entire line in the old bottles, but someone stold them. I HATE GW paint now but am stuck with it for now after the sizeable investment it takes to get new. They should fire whoever did that bottle design, and I am so sick of getting screwed by GW products. They have great mini\'s and their paint is good if you can get it out of the (&$*^$*^%$ bottle. I have to keep a pair of Robo grips on my work table in order to get 90% of the bottles even open. I hate it...I hate it...Reaper or Va will get my money in the future...geesh what the heck was wrong with the old GW bottles?...I had some of those colors for years and they were still fine up until they got swiped....
