Hello! I been using GW paint for while now but I been hearing good things about Vallejo Acrylics. Does anyone have any advice on Vallejo or experiences to share?

Thank you.

Don\'t give up on GW...

But use it in conjunction with other brands. There\'s no need to make a big switch, as all the brands can be mixed together. I\'ve had bad experiences with certain vallejo paints, just as I have with GW. However, both brands have their merits too. :)

The vallejo paints are a lot smarter. GW believes that everyone is a dipper, ie, you dip your brush in the pot when you paint. So your paint just keeps getting thicker and thicker as they age. And if you are not careful you get all kinds of color in your pot.

Vallejo comes in an eye drop bottle, it will last longer as you squirt out what you need and if you are mixing paints, you can sort of count the drops and remember your mixes.

I just switched to Vallejo Game colors after the advice given to me by the employee in the shop I buy my minis from. I was wanting to switch to a \"Pro\" paint line, I have been using craft paints, Apple Barrel, Delta Ceramcoat, for the 8 months that I\'ve been painting, but I felt the quality of the paint (or rather lack thereof) was holding me back. I asked what was the better brand, Citadel or Vallejo, and he said, by far without a doubt Vallejo...the pigmentation was more concentrated and the ease of use of the caps not getting crusted up plus you can just drop and count for mixing, I use a wet pallette, I would never need to dip a brush into anything, so little droppers were a good solution. So far I have been extremely happy with the paints, blows away the craft paints. One more thing, Vallejo has a line of metallic paints called \"liquid metals\" that are just amazing. You have to thin them with alcohol but they rule...hope this helps.

Either, with a nod to Vallejo for the reasons outlined above.

The alcohol metallics don\'t work very well when its hot, I was trying to use them in 30+ temps and they were dry before I could get the brush on the model!

I dont rate the Game colour range by Vallejo, I found that with certain colours, the dry colour was too far removed from the colour of the paint when wet. Especially when mixing black or white in to shade/highlight. However I love their model colour range!

So for me I would chose V Model colour over GW, but GW over V game colour

Oh god, not this one again!

There\'s nothing more \'pro\' about Vallejo compared to GW! Both are good brands, if not the best two brands on the market.

There is a slight difference between the properties of the two brands of paint, but it\'s not enough to get too excited about.

The Vallejo dropper bottles are a little over rated in my experience. They are better than the GW pots but you still suffer a certain amount of wastage. Colours that are used frequently tend to leak a little under the cap. This can get rather messy and tends to dry out around the edge of the cap.

Vallejo\'s are a bit thinner than GW which can make dry brushing awkward. I pour the Vallejo onto my palette and leave it to dry a bit before drybrushing.

Best reasons to go with Vallejo though is that they cost less than GW and you get more paint in a pot!

I\'ll now let everyone else tell you the same info in their own way.

Started using Vallejo and I\'m beginnging to prefer the Model Range over GW\'s paint\'s. But I\'m still using GW\'s as well.
In truth as Sturmhalo has pointed out, each has it\'s merits. But don\'t discount the other manufacturers Foundry Reaper and Addiko.
I also use Winsor & Newton\'s acrylic Tube paints as there are colours in that range which are a great compliment to a minipainters pallette.

One tip about Vallejo, when they are new SHAKE THE BOTTLE like you\'re trying to rattle your arm off. They need it to mix in the medium.

I\'ve found that the Ochre based colours, from any manufacturer, need a couple of coats as the coverage is not as strong as you first think.

I use everything that I can afford. I have a lot of both Vallejo and Citadel and use them interchangably.

Here\'s the biggest tip I have for you.
Buy dropper bottles from Wester Plastics (around 25 cents each) and transfer the GW paints to dropper bottles. Best of both worlds that way.

I\'ve looked a couple of times for a cheap plastic bottle source - Wester Plastics? gotta link or an address?

that was supposed to be \"western plastics\"

The subject, with several suppliers came up
HERE

I tried to go to WP\'s site, but the java scripts kept crashing. I\'m using poor old fashioned dial up and a 7-year old computer so you may have better luck.

Well, to answer the question, citadel paints over Vallejo, because i\'m a brush licker, and Vallejo paints make my tongue go numb....;)

Iactually use GW, Founndry and Vallejo happily together,, although I by colours, not specific ranges. I don;t use the Game colour range because it\'s a copy of the GW one, and i have all those colours already.

I just contacted the manufacturer, they are sending me a sample, I want to make sure the dropper works with the thicker paints. But if it all goes well, it will be in the CMON shop very soon at an affordable price. For those of you that want to buy 100\'s at a time, by all means buy them direct, but if you need low quantities, we will most likely be selling them at around $.50 each, still far cheaper than any other on-line retailer out there, so just a FYI for you.

Pigment wise, I am not the expert, any of you here will have more experience and more knowledge than I do about what paint is better. I just find the dropper bottle easier to use. And this way you can use whatever brand of paint you want and have the same bottle.

Also, we will most likley be getting the clear ones, so that you can see what the color is without opening it.

bottles

Borg, that\'s great. I ordered 150 back then (50 for someone else 100 for me) and didn\'t realize how many colors I actually had. If I expand my paints any I will be needing a few more.
