Dr. Bob

but not THAT Dr. Bob
I continue to paint at a snail\'s pace. One mini every two months or so ...

I\'d appreciate comments on my latest mini:

He\'s angry because a bunch of adventurers killed his god (according to the Chainmail fluff).

Specific things I\'m working on are:

Lighting (indirect natural light in this case)
Photography (a 3 megapixel digital camera)
NMM effects (though I used metallics here)
Basing (tried oregano and drybrushed gravel)
Choice of sculpt (my minis have been called \"boring\" before, so I chose a mini that I hope is \"cooler\")

I think he\'s pretty cool! The one thing I cannot tell from the pic is your shading with the Vallejo metallics. At first glance it just looks like a good Metallic paintjob with the light hitting in good places but not so much a variation in color. A little closer inspection and it appears to be different colors .. back of shield and boots. I bet you can tell more in person. Camera\'s really wash out shading. Nice work.

the doctor is in...

Dr. Bob is back,

I know what you mean by \"at a snail\'s pace\" since I have trouble even keeping up with that!

I\'ll have to agree with Grey Mouser on the metallics. It seems metallics don\'t seem to photo well.

Can\'t wait to see your next mini...Let\'s see, sometime in September?

The face looks really well done. You can see some emotion on him.

The base is great. Looks very \"woodsy\", plus it smells wonderfully...(maybe that is the oregano!;))

The photo is not bad, but I think an indirect light from the front side would help with the shadow that seems to block out the face & shield arm.

I think it is worthy of a mid 7....I\'ll vote an 8 though, cuz I hate to round down!!

lol

Thanks for the nice comments and votes.

The \"bright\" highlights on the armor, weapon, and shield are actually painted on with Vallejo silver, except for some of the right shoulderpad, which is reflecting some ambient light.

I had left the oregano out for a long time until it stopped being so pungent. I wasn\'t sure how fresh oregano would behave under varnish, so I wanted to make sure it was pretty stale.

Maybe I should dip my minis in olive oil though ...

:D

I reaally like the way you handled the metalics. Most of the woodgraining on the handle gets lost in the photo I\'m afraid, but what you cna see looks like it\'s done well. I really like the base. It ame out looking very natural. The oregano looks very much like natural leaf litter. Good job!

As for whether or not your choice of sculpt is cool, it seems almost imperative to choose one of the absolutely newest minis or one from the smaller, independent companies to get maximum \"cool\" value.

Nice mini, I like the whole realistic feel of it. Simple but effective.

Snail\'s pace is the right word, having exactly the same problem over here. *sigh*
