A Few years back I went to G,W,s H.Q. Nottingham as a result of being a winner at G.D.
I couldnt make the same day as all the other winners so they booked me in for a day on my own.I was treated extremely well and during my tour found the staff very friendly and extremely welcoming.

Paul Rudge ,( who was assistant Editor)chatted about the usual round of winners & I asked if anything exciting was in progress? He said all the \"Big Guns \" are very secretive about future projects.
On my train journey home I was reflecting on what he said , coming from the world of Military Figurines where all the guys are open about planned minis I was saddened by the paranoia reflected in the statement. Such fear is once again aggravated by the first 3 past the post judging system,as I have said with boring regularity on this sight , medals for a standard is a much fairer way of judging, {maybe if we ALL sent G.W a letter things might be reconsidered.} Anyway ,as nobody on sight also seems to want to let on about their G.D. projects I thought I would come against this spirit of fear & paranoia by letting my CMON buddies Know what I hope to enter this year .
Tersteegen & Marneas are going & as you can see are already finished,( though I have added a few extra small details to the Chaplain.I am currently working on an Eldar Farseer, primarily because I wanted to paint something Beautiful with Pretty colours, I do love my marines but they are not particularly colourful. I am also hoping to finish a punch-up between a marine & an Orc, but that models completion is in the balance as time is running out.
So what are you up to ? Let us know. That way when we get together we can look out for each other & our creations .... GOD bless .........VINCENTI lol

No.. it\'s not like paranoia. Not for me.. it\'s more like christmas eve! I don\'t even want to see the minis before the event! But I do understand if people are afraid that other people will try to overdo them.. and as you mentioned it depends on the system of judging, nothing else! :D

Amazing work BTW.. Will be very fun to see it IRL!

It is bizarre to me. Either you are better than somone or not. Sure some people will try to second guess the judges by doing the latest figure or a bigger conversion but skill will generally win through.

I was going to be doing a converted Chaos lord terminator - but found my sculpting skills were not up to what was in my head.

I just bought a Tau battlesuit guy and if I have time I will try to finish him off (but I doubt I will be entering this year after all).

Well I am at a lose now as to what to do for an entry.
I did plan on 2 major conversions one for the single WHFB and one for Single 40K however after yesterday they have both gone well down on the list as being far to ambitious for the time scale :( as everything I was trying to do just didn\'t want to go.

I have got to the stage now where I do not know what I want to enter. I enjoyed doing the get together mini and I am now thinking maybe I should do a squad of these and enter them but then again maybe I should enter something else...indescission rules argh :cussing:

I want to enter just for the hell of it but I feel with it being GD I need to enter something different but all their latest stuff only inspires me to a degree and not all the way that it should.

I agree there should be more awards other than just the first three past the post, I know there is a badge and little certificate for those that make the final but I think it needs a bit more, maybe a few commended\'s amongst the finalists as well as the first three past the post.

I know Vincenti you are refering to the awards system such as that of Euro Militaire and to a large extent there is also a lot of other events that only do a first three and in some cases only a first in class.

I guess at the end of the day it is their show and they can do what they like such as charging £25 for a ticket then charge you a further £5 or £6 to park the damn car :cussing:

Actually it makes perfect sense not to tell people what you are working on for a Gold Demon competition. Isn’t there suppose to be some kind of anonymity? I think Penguin posted a link of some guy claiming that the judging was rigged because the judges already knew who painted which entry. Imagine if people really did know who the owner of an entry was. I bet there is a lot of stress in getting it ready. And telling people what you painted isn’t your top priority. Why do you need to know what other people are working on? People usually show it after the competition. Just chill out and don’t worry about it.

As far as GW goes; it’s easy for a guy who make historical to tell you what they are up to. I ALREADY HAPPENED! But a game where you make up the story as you go along kind of kills the interest. And it tips off your competition about what you are making.;)

I\'ve sort of wondered about this also for a while. Although since I am far from experienced at GD\'s, (been to 1 total) I just sort of fell into the habbit of staying relatively secretive about my entries, mostly because I thought that was what I was supposed to do! lol

I do tend to show a few people however, for feedback :)

I remember one of the first threads I started following was Tony\'s Dreadnaught. He ended up getting a Gold for that work.

For me I plan to post my work (realistically for next year) because I feel I could use the feedback.

Indeed. that guy was an utter wazzock :D I would agree with Sven it is less paranoia, more not wanting to spoil the surprise. However, I think the paranoia is still present... Anyway, as for my entries  This year I will only be entering YB, with Lord Castor of Kislev who most people have already seen  2007 I will be entering YB for my final time, not entirely sure which model to paint for it but Lord Solar Macharius is probable, or maybe one of the daemonhunter henchmen (great models...). I will also be entering Duel next year, I have big plans for that... details will be finalised when I get the minis, but I can tell you it is Chaos vs. Empire. I think even I will keep that mostly under wraps for the time being :innocent: I might also rustle up some other stuff for my final YB year, I want to go out with a bang! :D I\'ll probably bring a couple of other minis this year and enter thme into adult categories just to see how they do, it\'d be awesome to make first cut :duh:

Happy painting..!

Well Ive been very secretive about my GD stuff. Its just the way the guys are here and as I am an unknown on the Oz scene I wanted to surprise people. I dont think my painting will win it for me but Im hoping my conversion work will at least get me to the Games day. After that I dont really care but heres a sneek peek anyway.

 Wow Ogrebane! That looks awesome! Well I\'m too far from any GD :( so the next best thing is the Warpstone Painting Competition at Conflict: Vancouver.

I\'m preparing something for basically every category, but my \'main\' entry is a forge world sentinel with missle-launchers. I\'m really excited because it\'s my first vehicle and forge world mini. Good thread Vincenti.

I was working on a dreadnought diorama many moons past, but have since lost the impetus - and also my skills have advanced since coming onto CMoN, and I think I\'d have to start again if I were to seriously consider entering GD with it...

But I believe my concept was original and unique :p

Lucksucker...:D...

I have this Phobia about my Luck bein Sucked away if too many people know my work...

And call me a chicken, butmy last Diorama placed Third ALTHOUGH even Goatman, who had the Gold, said, that he was sure mine would be First... And I guess this is because about 3 People constantly sucked the luck off my Project this year, that simple...:p...

Hihi... If spoken seriously... A handicap could be if some of the Jury knows your work and it is based on a \"WOW\" Effect... if you once see a mini you could be a bit more down to earth once you have to judge it afterwards...

If I would had to choose I would have decided to see Banshee´s Ogre at Games Day Germany Only, not before that... It´s SURELY not because it´s bad, but I already seen it, so there was no tooo big surprise afterwards...

Just my 2 Cents...

I must admit I don\'t publically show my GD stuff. There is an element of Paranoia I guess but it\'s mainly about impact. I like to know that the judges haven\'t seen my work before the day. Mainly because I feel that first impact is the most telling point in the contest.

That all said I can\'t remember the last time I had a mini finished more than a few days before the even. I know I\'ve got nothing even close to finished yet.

Oh, and a little note for you Adrian. I assume you know this already but I\'ll mention it anyway.

I assume the two large scales will go in the Large Scale and Open categories. Make sure your Chaplain goes in the Open. Forgeworld large scales are, for some bizarre reason, not legal entries for Large Scale. Just don\'t want to see any problems for you because you entered the other way round.
