I have a cold. I know I\'ve asked this before but we have new people and they might have a magic spell or something.

What is your sure-fire no-holds-barred best remedy for a cold?

I do hot cranberry juice and nyquil/dayquil so I can function at work and all. God help me if I ever got enough sleep.

Anyway, what is your best remedy? :(

Stay the fudge away from the weak immune system sickly people that are covered in infectious filth? That\'s my method.

I might have a better remedy if I ever got sick, but I\'ve only been sick a handful of times in my 31 years, so I\'m no help. The super virus\' are going to wipe us all out in a couple years anyway, you can\'t hide from it, I don\'t think.

For sore throat\'s I had a friend who would suck on a zinc tablet and swore (dont they all) that it made the sore throat better.

Sleep is one of the best medications though.

This is a call for DR Freakinacage...

Personally the only thing that truly works for me is rest. Everything else is a short term solution.

Tear Gas works. It will clear your nasal passages fast.

lol That\'s a bit extreme, don\'t you think? I could indulge in one of lifes finest foods, sushi, and add tons of wasabi and get the same effect. But thanks! :D

I\'m telling you 10 minutes in a USMC Gas Chamber will clear all the bugs from your sinus - and come to think of it all the mucus from your body.lol

Theraflu or Zicam. Zicam is particularly effective if you use it when you first start feeling bad.

Also Camfer is for sissies. Use CS Gas.

Whenever I start feeling the symptoms coming on, I stock up on apple and orange juice. Mostly apple juice. I drink it at room temperature, rather than cold, so that it doesn\'t add that cold stinging feeling to the symptoms.

I drink a lot of it.

Also, I pile on lots of extra blankets when I sleep, to help sweat it out while I\'m resting. I\'ve heard it suggested to take a hot bath for this, too, but I\'d worry about the added moisture in the lungs from the steam bringing on pneumonia.

Take at least a full day off work to actually let your body get the rest it needs. When you\'re sick, eight hours of sleep just isn\'t enough. Your body needs to be able to focus on healing, just like your mind needs to be able to focus for work. When you\'re trying to split those duties, your body just runs down that much faster.

To help with nasal congestion, if you have any, I suggest those nose strips, rather than any ingested medicines. Most modern medicines just suppress symptoms, which makes your body relax, rather than work at healing.

Feel better, soon.

I second that. Although you don\'t really need a Netti pot. I\'ve been snorting salt water for years, after a friend told me about it, and for your common cold, it\'s always taken care of between 50 to 75 percent of the problem.

However, I do things a bit differently than what the Netti pot is designed for. With a Netti, you literally stick the pot\'s pour spout in one nostril, and pour until salt water comes running out the other.

What I do is mix up a glass of warm salt water, just as if I were planning to gargle with it. Then, with a finger along side the nose (closing off one nostril), I situate the glass and my head so that the other nostril is submerged in salt water, and inhale slowly until the salt water is trickling down the back of my throat. I then repeat the process with the other nostril. Once done, you\'ll need to tilt your head backwards and forewards to drain out your sinuses, but that\'s about it.

A word of caution, though. It stings like hell, particularly if your sinuses are raw. You also need to be careful to not snort the salt into your lungs. I don\'t think it\'s dangerous, but it is uncomfortable. Despite all that, it does get the job done.

My Dad used to have us do that when we were kids but we didn\'t have any special tools. Just a cup of warm salt water and our hands. Not pleasent but it does help.

Oh.........and...............eeewwwwwwuuuuuu ;)

Take this and you\'ll be better in a week. Take nothing and you\'ll be better in about seven days.

If it\'s really bad, sleep as much as possible - you don\'t notice you\'re sick if you\'re asleep. Otherwise, man up (or whatever the girl version of that is) :D

Blackcurrant juice works to help my sore throat.
Ginger based tea to ease tiredness.
Other than that SLEEP! Best means of curing it.

You could always get a decent Indian curry and try to steam it out that way.
