Thanks all! I'm pretty pleased with it.

Got to decide what to paint next. I have an Ork that I'm heavily converting, plus Festus, which I might make a diorama for, as well as boxes and bags of old minis from years ago.

Hmmm...

I may not paint this guy next but I'm almost done converting. Still some smoothing and details to add, such as a pommel and binding to the choppa!

I really like how Goriel turned out. Nicely done!

This new guy looks pretty cool too. I like the conversions you've done.

Thanks!

My red is as follows, over a black primer:

Khorne red
Mephiston red
Evil suns scarlett

Then highlights are progressively more white scar mixed in with the previous mix. I tend to do a number of thin coats here, specially when adding the white, which can go chalky.

Then I do a good 8-12 glazes of reds and yellows to combat the pink look. I find this gives a much deeper look to the red as well.

That's pretty much it, although I do ocassionally add a little warboss green to the deepest shadows. It adds a little life to the overall look.

Now I just need to learn to apply the paint better to finer details. That's where my biggest problems are I think. I hate painting ropes and chains. I just can't make them look nice.

Ork looks sweet! Really need to step up my own sculpting skills. Did you have something in mind for the base? Pose suggests him clambering up rugged ground whilst fighting something much larger than himself (A fex in my mind) to me :)

Hi all. Not had chance to sit and paint for a couple of weeks but hoping to get some time over the next few days. I'm going to start on the Ork's paint job next but I do also have a delivery from figone which is just calling out to me. I'll get that cleaned up and built and show you what's next.

secretpaintgeek - Thanks! I know what you mean from that pic but in the flesh it's more like he is leaping, so I think he should be launching himself off something. Maybe a rock, maybe a bit of imperial ruin..

Time to work on my skin tones! Next project is this awesome mini from figone:

Needed a little filling but overall a great casting. Looking forward to getting started on this.

Right, enough silliness. Back to the painting. I've had a start at this dude now. Early days, with a basecoat and blocking out the first highlight. Right now is looking a bit too red but that will be fixed soon(isn)

It is a great mini. WIsh I had more time to get into it, as it is a joy to paint. That said I've started on the second highlight. Adding a little creaminess....

Still a long way to go. Stripey trousers?

Wow, having a pregnant wife is really taking it's toll on my painting time. At least mini painting. I seem to be doing a lot of house painting!

I've managed to do a little more on this figure. You can tell it's a great sculpt because even after a few weeks away I want to carry on! The face is only just begun but the rest of the skin is getting there:
