The spanish Boromir is just another example of an unconverted miniature that have won.

Again you can win the entire competition with an unconverted piece as proven by the empirical evidence given. You have no reason to fear if your sculpting skills are not up on par with your painting skills!!

And if we are talking pieces put together without that much sculpting which I believe most of us are able to. Just look at some of David Rodriguez amazing conversions.

Just do your best and don\'t worry! But you won\'t win with \"another ultramarine\" if it\'s not the best ultramarine ever painted. Some creativity is needed of course!

Apologies with the confusion on slayer sword winner, it was the carnifex now i remember.

I wasn\'t saying that you wont get anywhere without converting or scratchbuilding a model.

All i meant was that it is understandable why someone may be a bit apprehensive.

As avelorn said the evidence is there (boromir/carnifex) and as generulpoleaxe said creativity is needed (just look at the assassin thats only a simple conversion of the model but in a changed pose and a nice base creating a scenario)

All i meant was for people entering and coming up against wonderfully converted or scratchbuilt models its quite daunting

lovely models this year at the french golden demon and some amazing scratch builds.

However,, when i was at the spanish 08 golden demon, we were told that scratch builds were meant to go into the open competition,,,and isnt there a rule that says open competition and youngblood minis cant win the slayer sword?? maybe im wrong.

(the dwarf definately deserved it may i add)

@Cleezy: Yeah it\'s daunting, I feel it too! But it\'s a part of it all I guess. I the same sometimes by amazing paintjobs as well.. but most often I am very inspired as well.

@Monkeyman: Different rules for different GD\'s. In french the Open can win the slayer.

I believe France, Spain, Italy the open CAN win a sword.

It\'s like, the rules are adjusted based on the market it appears.

There is something seriously wrong with some of those pictures. geez... hopefully it\'s only temporary something from uploading or changing format and not a problem with the camera or settings. They are awful!

@Avelorn: definitely agree, the better paint jobs inspire me to go further, the work is amazing and although i feel that level is something otherworldly i know that they were once as skilled as me. So my GD entries are planned hehe. Cant wait for it sept 14th ftw

i know what you mean but i actually know someone who looks like that. i think the main thing is the depth of the folds of skin from his nose across the cheeks
