Partially full bottles/glass?

I poked through the articles and didn\'t see anything on this.

Can anyone give me an idea how to go about pulling off the illusion of a half-full bottle? One of the minis I\'m working on at the moment has a bottle and I\'d like to make it look like the potion in there is swirling around.

Thanks!

find a real half full bottle and copy it!! the main problem with these is that unless the level is perfect, they look weird

Darth, you do realize that effect will have some definate point of view issues? It will look right in the photo from the correct angle, but I am guessing it will look very wrong from any other angle - either vertically or horizontally.

Yeah, I know. I guess I\'m more trying to figure out colors and that sort of thing..ie, do you bring it up to white right about the line of the liquid to show light glare, etc?

Same with any NMM and metals to an extent, nothing new to 3D minis.

Depends if your wanting coloured glass or none coloured really...

paint the liquid first.. As a general rule paint so the liquid line is horizontal to the floor.. If the model is moving of course add a few crests and curls.

highlight the colour towards the top. and do a last fairly light highlight to define the level. but then add a slight highlight at the bottom like a gemstone.

then the glass painting.. (hell of a lot of fun and one of those still not mastered by ayone yet (I don\'t think) If the glass is colourless you basically need to paint the colours that can be seen through it but bear in mind for best effect to distort the things behind the glass.. us a bottle as reference. (good excuse to drink the contents first.)
The final finish is with pure white light spots.

to make the glass coloured do the same then glaze the colour over afterwards . go back in and spot the white highlights in.

most people ..(and I must admit I still do) finish with gloss varnish and that really does help.

getting it to look good all round is generally not a problem because in most cases bottles aren\'t moulded in a way that you can see all angles. if they are then the key thing is to keep the liquid line consistent all round. have fun..
