Pate's Throng.

Thanks:) I need to make the runes on the helmet pop a bit though, at the moment they blend in with the background too much. I've seen that people, even though it makes little to no sense, make the gradiant on details opposite of the background with very nice results. I'm going to try that.

Your NMM is top notch mate, coming across very nicely IMO. Also, the beard on the runelord is well done. Can't wait to see him finished.

Are you going to include some red on the rest of the mini to tie in with the horns?

Thanks! I haven't really thougt about it, but that's a good Idea. Perhaps the handle on the one-handed hammer? Painting that simply metal might make might it sort of disappear, considering that the beard is the same color scheme. Suggestions are welcome! Perhaps the handle on the warhammer, staff and background of the shield could be painted in the same manner as the horns?

Not much of an update. I basically just wanted to post some better pictures since I realized that the last couple were complete poo. I've based like 90% of the gold that's left and I started the toning process on the bracelets, just the very first step of it. I'm also sort of done with the skin, for now. These pictures shows the colors much better, and you can actually make out his face. Also, with a lot of the gold based I think it gives an idea of what the end result will be like. After this there'll be no more until it's finished, promise:p

I also managed some new spillage:brushwave:, the grand prize is now up to two cookies!

As always, everything is welcome. There's one things I especially want help with though. As mousekiller suggested, I'm going to paint something else on this guy with the same colors as the horn. I was thinking the shield "background" and the handle of the 1h hammer (now I also notice that the toning is sort of shit on the backside of the horns, but hey, who cares about the backside of anything!:p). Would that work or would it be too much?

I paint my thumb.
Love them staunties, my first mini was a Dwarf, and if I could gather an army and actually play, they would be my first choice.
That first unit is quite classy.

The Rune lord ain't so bad, if it's all the trinkets and rune that are give you a hard time, you can just tone them down a bit and look at him as a whole... that's what I do when small bits are giving me a hard time, move along and then look at the whole thing when the rest is painted. The beard and face are looking good too. The red horns though don't really fit anywhere in the picture, maybe it'd be nicer if they where a color that ties better with the rest.

I guess the horns are a bit much:p I'm really interested in your opninions about a colorscheme for the cloth, barely visible but will be once painted. I'll paint the "background" of the shield in the same color. Oor maybe it would look better in just "bare metal"?

I've finally finished this god forsaken mini, spawned in the firey fires of hell itself! I'm semi-pleased with the result. I've learned some stuff along the way, endless lots to learn still, but atleast I'm moving down some sort of slippery path:) Aaaaaand here he is, the first completed character for my Dwarf Throng:

C&C welcome as always. Also, if you don't mind, I've put him in my gallery so feel free to vote:)

Well done Pate.
All the bitz and trinkets work well together, the green shield looks REALLY nice.
I still disagree with the red horns tough, but that's none of my business.
Also there are some odd patches in the shading of the skin, you might want to tidy it up.
I'd say it's a good 6.5, which is pretty danm good for a gaming mini.

Edit: A direct link would be a good invitation to voters ;)

But! The red horns is where he keeps his mojo!

Thanks:) I really rushed it at the end, basically just wanted to get him finished. I wouldn't recommend anyone to ever paint this mini. It's Crap. Lots of small stuff, but the detail itself is shitty so you can hardly make out what it's supposed to be. Some areas of it are so messed up that the artist probably didn't know what he intended. Deja Vu... I've said that before, I think:p Could be just my copy that's shit, but I'm all for prejudice!;P

God, I wish this thread was some other title than "Pate's throng". I keep seeing something else when it shows up on the 5 latest threads..... and now I'm wondering if it's some kind of Freudian thing, mild dyslexia or both.

I do the same thing! Since you have the power, why not remove the r and be done with it? No more sleepless nights;P
