I'm going to be running a 40k army aswell. Since Eldar are the coolest ever, the choice was easy. Most of my army is still being shipped to me, but not all of it. A friend of mine was kind enough to give me his old falcon, in exchange for a pizza.

It was previously painted in pretty thick colors, and it still shows. Since I was unsuccessfull in removing the old paint, and didn't have the patience to find a working method, I just slapped the paint straight on.

I'm hoping that once it's highlighted and all that it wont be as appearent. Anywho, it was free and with falcons being the coolest veichle availible to 40k I don't really give a sh*t:)

My eldar is going to be of the Ulthwé craftworld, since black and bone white is cool, and because I can get away with using pretty much only plastic minis.

The base coat is pretty much done althogh I'm going to make the stripes thinner and in the same process increase the distance between them. As it is now they're too bulky.

I don't think I've ever painted a veichle, not even back in the days, so all tips and that are more than welcome:) Should I make it with or without wear and tear? I still haven't descided.

My battleforce + storm guardians and far seer has finally arrived! Thanks to my good friend Crane, it has also been expanded. Turned out he had an Avatar, 4 howling banshees, 4 striking scorpions, two of them web-thingy-dudes abd 4 swooping hawks. I started out with buying an exarch for the swooping hawks and with that my army touches down on 1000points. And whenever I want to expand I'll just get an exarch for one of the above and put them in action:D I'm a bit torn between using the avatar or my farseer though. But that's something for a completely different forum! What's freaking awesome aswell is that he found the missing canopy and weapons for the falcon, so now it's complete.

I thougt I'd make a list of what I will be painting in the near future:
9 Guardians and a weaponsplatform, 8 Storm Guardians, 4 Dire avengers + 1 Exarch, 4 Swooping Hawks + 1 Ecarch, a wave serpent, a war walker, a falcon, a far seer and / or the avatar.

And now for the real reason why I made this post. Some might be thinking, why 9 guardians? Doesn't the battleforce come with 10? It does, but I really wanted a warlock for my storm guardians, so I had to sacriface one of the regular guys. Instead of buying a warlock I descided to put my GS and sculpting tools to use, they've just been lying in the drawer since I got them. Below is the result.

warlockwip1.jpg

This might not seem like a big deal to anyone but it's a huge deal to me. It's the first I've ever done sculpting wise, except a pebble or two out of gs back in the days. I got a result that exceeded my expactations by far (which basically means it didn't turn out like completel shit), at first I was reluctant to even try because I didn't want to ruin one of the mini's. I think it turned out ok and once painted I'm confident it'll look nice on the gaming board. It's not like one of GW's warlocks, but Í rather have this one since It's partly my own creation.

I've used guardian leggings, dire avenger torso, dire avenger exarch head (since warlocks are supposed to have ornate helmets). A spear that's also for the dire avenger exarch, which passes for one of them singing spears. The left arm is also from the dire avenger exarch sprue, he might not be holding it in his hands but it's still a shuriken pistol in my book.

I made the robe thingie out of gs, it's not a skirt... It's a robe that goes from his waist and down;P And then I made the sash around his waist, I even managed to make a knot on it and flaps hanging down from the k not. I made some strings to hang some other bitz from. Admittedly the insignia on his chest looks like complete shit. I took the worst way possible when making it, but I've learned my lesson and I have an idea of how I could make it much smaller and more elaborate. Next time that is. Once this insignia is completely set I'll just file it down so it doesn't stick out further than his chin.

I think this sculpting thing might be even more fun than painting, I never knew!

C&C please!:)

must have been a great pizza:victory:
work looks good on the robe, for your first attempt is very good. Just maybe the folds are a little bullky.
Good luck with the rest of the army.

Yep, I agree that the folds are too bulky. But I have an idea how to improve that aswell, for my next project. Whatever that might be:) Learned tons of stuff from just this small conversion.

I've got some more work done. All my guardians are now based, their bases are sanded and based aswell. I'e made some changes to the warlock aswell to make him appear more warlocky. Unfortunatley the camera ran out of batteries, and I had no replacement, so I only got this one picture. And fortunately it's the most important one, from a feedback point of view!

I thougt black would be an easy ride, but I realized it wouldn't be, since I wont be able to shade it, in a normal sense. And I didn't just want to slap a few highlights on and call it done, nor did I want it to appear grey rather than black.

So before I rushed ahead I descided to make a testfigure, as far as the armor is concerned. Once I gave it some thougt and had a general idea of how I would actually achieve the result I desired, the painting went pretty smooth. The result can be seen below.

sgwip1-1.jpg

The only thing that's painted is the armor itself, weapons, "face", hair-thingy, gems etc are untouched. There are going to be two versions, one with a black helmet and bonce white face, this one, and another with a bone white helmet and a black face.

Anywho, I came here looking for feedback on the black before going full out on the rest of the guardians. It's intended to be played with so there will be kinks here and there.

Any feedback is welcome, but the armor itself is what I'm primarily interested in:) Although since nothing else is anything but based I'm not sure what feedback would be directed at such an area:p

looking good could do with a few hotspots (thin out pure white and put a spot on the right pionts) there was a figure with great black armour will see if I can track it down a give you some reference.

looking good! like exilesjjb mentioned a few white spots to give a "glimmering" effect would be nice. but i think you avoid to make the armor looking too gray, which is a common "mistake" when blending black armor.

Thanks. I'll add some "hot spots" and then this is the foundation for the rest of my warhost:)

I've finally found some time to paint. I've finished the armor on my storm guardians. Now I only need to paint the weapons, faces, gems, and other ornaments such as the hair thingies. Nothing much really.

armorklar-1.jpg

In the transfer sheets that came with the battleforce, and every other box I bought for that matter, all of ulthwés insignias containt black and yellow. So I was thinking that I would paint the waist cloth and hair yellow. Rather than red, which was my original plan. How do you think that would work out? The weapons will mainly consist of bleached bone, except the fusion guns that will be mostly black (the two rifle thingies wielded by the guys in bleached bone helmets). Ah that's right, the helmets that are painted in bleached bone are only based so far, so not all of the armor is complete. The eyes will be red.

Thanks guys:) I'm pretty pleased with the result and I think with the minis completely finished it'll look nice on the battlefield.

@skelettets: Initially I was just going to send it to my brother showing the progress. But then I descided to post it aswell since the picture wasn't all that bad. There will be proper pictures later on:)

And I'm still interested in feedback on the color on the waist cloth and hair... thing. Yellow, which would feel more appropiate for the factions colortheme, or red, which I personally think would look better. But yellow might work aswell. Help!:)

Oh wow! PITA colors you've used there:O Lovely work on them, the unit looks really great so together. I do think your falcon needs more attention (obviously:p)

@a luna: I'm not sure what PITA means, except that it's a bread used when eating tacos, and it's awesome. So I'm hoping it's something good:p In that case; thank you. The plan with the falcon was to have it finished before the rest of my eldar arrived by mail, but just as any other awesome battle plan it didn't last very long. My eldar arrived and I couldn't resist the urge to start painting the wee buggers. I did find time to make the stripes less bulky though, which imo looks better:)

I got some more work done. The red, flaps and hair is done. I got two pictures that doesn't do the figures justice, but they do however show the general contrast between the red and black. Before I move on I want some advice.

Some of them have chain swords, which will be bonewhite except for the edgepart. Most of them have more conventional swords. I was thinking of making the blade of those in a sort of ice blue-tinted metal. Will that add too much color?

I was thinking of doing the same for the metal parts on the pistols, but most parts of the weapons will consist of bone white. I was also thinking of making the eyes green, or blue to go with the metal, instead of red. The ones with black helmets will have bone white faces, and vice verse. Feedback on the colors needed:)

And now, the pictures.
