Patience!

Are you patient enough when you paint/sculpt? After Ming-Hua posted his latest green and said he\'s worked on it 32 hours in three days, I simply couldn\'t help admiring his patience.

For me, it\'s one of the worst things about miniature painting: losing patience in the middle of the project and starting painting spmewhat carelessly just to get done with it. Also, I remember, once I was painting for a few days in a row, about 7-8 hours a day, and it made me feel completely knocked-down. So patience is a big issue for me. Is it for you?

I generally have quite a lot of patience, thankfully. Since I don\'t normally do commission work I can generally afford to spend the time I feel necessary to achieve what I want. For competitions it can be different, but I rather paint through the night than rush things and not be happy with my entry.

yes and no for me. There are definately projects that pushed me past what I had patience for (my witchhunters seem to be stuck on permenant hold at the moment), but others which I just really get into and can paint hours on end and just lose track of time. However, there are stories here on cmon that go beyond what I could do, like Anders 16 hour paint fest for CCV, or Anja and her High Elf lifestyle (it seems more than a project).

My biggest problem is losing a critical edge. I really haven\'t been painting at my current level for very long so it doesn\'t come 2nd nature to me, so I find I keep having to catch myself from slipping into old habits, and when I stair at the same mini for too long (such as the current tyrant) I lose the ability to see what quality level something is painted at, which is dangerous for me.

I find it depends on the mini, if I like the mini then I don\'t tend to loose patience but I just cannot paint armies as it is too repetitive and that bores me s*****ss to be perfectly honest.
So usually if I am painting an army then I give the job of rank and file troops to a friend and I tend to do characters and smaller units.
The Ogre army was a god send when a unit of bulls can be 3 minis plus it cut down the amount of minis that I needed to paint to make the army the only excedption being the Gnoblars.

Eric: Every one on this forum has at least one army, warband, whatever.... on the go that is \'on hold\'. I have a slightly painted Bretonnian army for WHFB.

I can start a project full of enthusiasm, then it slowly goes down untill I just stop. My painting \'career\' is littered with great ideas that never got finished. I loose interest or go onto the latest \'shiney thing\' that takes my eye

My worst is rushing a project right at the end. But I\'m also a bit \'anally retentive\' so I often go back to stuff.

I find that if I paint for extended period, my arms lock up and my butt gets sore, my eyes burn (from the bright lights and magnification).

But if I can paint an hour or so every other night, I am a much happier camper to be around.

Not me. Reason? Lack of patience!
Although my husband balances the situation out: he\'s got so many armies that I simply lost count lol

You\'re right! Even though I look more like a dark elf atm, pushing myself through the endless ranks of shiny helmets...

YES!! I have that exact problem. For example, I\'m having trouble finishing up the last bits on my Slaanesh Champion (like the itty bitty gems, and bottles...).

I tend to take frequent short breaks to avoid \"paint overload\". Like browsing the CMON forums for a few minutes. ;)

Heh! Normally I\'d say I\'m on the patient side, but not twenty minutes ago I went through the house looking for a small hairdryer since my washes weren\'t drying fast enough! lol

I find that if start painting, I\'ll do it for hours and hours without worrying about time at all. The problem lately is that I\'ve developed the habit of turning on Trillian(IMs) or loading up various message boards first, and those are a bit of a distraction. <g>

Anders, I\'m going to quote you on that every time I post yet another WIP :D

Anja, I have a problem seeing you as a dark elf, I think it\'s the blue eyes, not dark-elfy!

Kep, I have a sneeky way of drying my washes fast, I have my laptop set up at my painting desk and I just always set the mini where the CPU fan blows out, which is of course a constant stream of warm dry air ;)

Well, I\'m patient by nature so that has never been a problem with me. I don\'t have a \"can\'t wait untill I\'m done\" mode. On the other hand, I can loose interest if there is no challenge or it simply takes too long and other things start look more interesting. Kind of like Donga describes.
So for me it\'s actually easier to get a figure finished when I do the work in a few days than when it\'s spread over several weeks.

PAtience is a big issue with me. I usually start out a project beeing very carfull and trying to improve and I usually tend to finnsh rushing just to see what it will look like. But it\'s getting better with time :p

I\'m generally pretty patient, but there are times when other things are on my mind and the figure might just be f**king me off a bit. That\'s when I tend to say \'Screw this\' and open a bottle of something (tonight it\'s been vodka and bitter lemon).

:D

Nope, no patience at all.

The rows of half-painted minis, and inferior shite that should have been better are testament to this!

Wish they\'d paint themselves. By yesterday......;)
