Peeping Tom - Or: What to do with the 'inside' of mantles?

Hi.
I wonder what you would do with the lower side of a mini in a mantle/robe where you should be actually able to see their lags when looking from below. Most minis can hide that pretty well by standing on a flat base. But what if the mantle is blowing in the wind and you are (or should be, since there is no undercut to the inside) be able to look inside the mantle? The only things I can imagine is to make black surface or a short color-fade to black.
But is there any trick you can tell me about?
Greetings

Gah! There was a whole discussion about this on another mini figure that would interest you. Unfortunately, I can't find it. It was a nice mini, and had a dress that went over an already fully sculpted mini, and the debate was what to do with the mini parts that weren't going to show (basically, the inside of the dress and the legs). Can anybody else help by finding that? If I recall, it was sorts of a Southern belle or French dress like thing.

Sorry. Search AND Google fail on my part.

And the reason I mention that thread as it doesn't seem to solve your problem is that I believe the discussion did turn to what you're describing.

I think you might have misunderstoud. Actually I am talking about robes which do not have sculpted legs inside, but just have a flat and filled interior, so that there is no geometry inside that could be painted, just a flat surface which is connecting all lower edges of the robe. Some parts of that flat surface are visible when looking from the front of the mini and I dunno how to paint these areas or how others handle that problem.

In that case I think black is about the only way to go... other than buying better-sculpted figures or modifying yourself :cute:

No, no. I did understand. The thread started with the hollowed figure but then went into what to do when the robes were sculpted solidly, like you've said. That's why I was wanting to find it.

I really want to say that someone wrote that they would blend from the robe colors at the edges to black in the middle, trying to give the appearance that what one saw was sculpted, but that it only worked from one angle. But since I can't find the $#@& thread I'll probably be proved a liar. Oh well.

Hehe. I guess if nothing else will come up until I have to paint that part, I'll drill a bit of real depth into it, paint the holes black and the edges will get a darker tone of the original robes.
