Pegazus's Pile of Pminiatures (WIP)

Um dude, lower picture - huge mold line from nipple to bracer. Other than that good so far.
You'd think so, wouldn't ya? But on the mini, it appears to be a strap going into the buckle underneath, so it'll get painted in a dark leather.

My eyes go straight for it every time too. "Line alert, line alert!" Have to examine it closely often. Maybe I should shave it off and save me the hassle.

Yeah, after I thought about it for a bit and looked over it a couple more times, I came to the realization that it could be a strap of some sort.

Which may be reason enough to remove it entirely. After all, if its a detail on the mini, but looks like a seam, might as well treat it as one. On the fence. Probably will leave it just so I don't have to repaint.

How many points you get if you have to repaint?

Well, I imagine I could squeeze at least two points out of it. One for it being cleaned off, and another for it being repainted. Have to see what it looks like painted like a strap I suppose.

I wasn't going to paint at all tonight, but got roped into it by a couple of rug monkeys.

And now for the update. While they worked, I managed to get the scar on top of his head painted (Amethyst Purple; 9024), his mouth done up (same purple, plus Ghost White for the teeth; 9063), and the gun with some basecoat of black (Pure Black; 9037). And of course, I didn't realize it was out of focus until I finished this post. Meh. Leaving it. It's late and I'm sleepy.

Slugga barrel needs drilling out.
Yeah, not going to happen. Not that I don't agree that it would look better, but...

Tried writing some excuse there on why I don't want to do it. Haven't found one other than I'm too lazy to do it.

I hear you. Sometimes the fiddly detail bits can get tedious.

Besides, you could say it was Big Mek I. Nept's first (and last!) attempt to make it more dakka.

How lazy am I? Very very lazy. How long did it take to drill out the barrel?

'Bout 2 seconds with the right Dremel bit.

Did I mention how lazy I am? Not even going to retake the out of focus picture (kids are itching to go spend money). And yes, that's a spot of orange under his eye that I'll need to fix.

I don't know. The orange under the eye looks good on the green skin. Maybe turn it into war paint?

Got to open Christmas gifts early last night, I was given Super Dungeon Explorer! I'd been bidding on one on eBay and it went above my max bid, so now glad I didn't win it. But, that adds 52 minis to paint! Probably more than that, if all the extra chests and spawners or what (hadn't had a chance to fully look things over) are counted. Have to work it in here somewhere!

Oh the bane of Real Life and Higher Priorities! Damn you Visit To Family! Damn you Tech Review, Drawing Release and Overtime! Damn you Pinewood Derby and Science Fair!

And damn you CMON store for putting out Cang on such a huge discount that I came >< that close to buying one. Sadly, it's money I shouldn't be spending in the first place, so I'll get you next time, my pretty! And your little dog, too!

So I've managed to push away those pesky higher priorities and get some painting done. Only an hour, but that's what I had. Painted up some fur around and about on the Wolfen-dio mini. Very unhappy with it. Needs some more ruddy or rusty color to make pop a bit better. I'll touch it up later.

And in case you were curious, pinewood cars got 2nd place style for his den (a volcano car, with painting tips from CMON for the molten lava coming down the hill), and 1st place style in the Open class. Nice of them to allow family and siblings to make cars. Keeps the fathers from "helping" too much, I feel. Thinking about having an aluminum frame built for next years, our last.

Picture time.

Got another hour in. Put in some brown-red in the fur (2/3 chestnut gold 9073 and 1/3 clear red 9094), and painted the sash (marine teal 9077). Went to do the shadow on the sash, starting with Deep Ocean 9076 and a touch of Fire Orange 9006. Didn't darken it enough for my tastes, so added one drop of Pure Black 9037. Should have just stuck with the black, so made it a simple wash instead. I'll put in some highlights later.

Left picture shows just the addition to the fur, right one shows the sash.

Got some more work done this afternoon. Having 20+ inches of snow on the ground helps keep one inside. Got the highlights on the sash done, 50-50 mix of Surf Aqua (9078) and Ghost White (9063). Also got the leather straps put in (base Ruddy Leather 9109, highlights 50-50 Oiled Leather 9110 and Burnt Orange 9111). I don't have a picture of it, but started on the weapons. Went with a metallic Honed Steel 9053, but it really doesn't show up at all. Maybe when I highlight.

Plus, Flickr informs me that I'm almost at my limit of photos. Could have sworn that was a lot higher originally. Oh well, time to start putting photos somewhere else.

Duh! Hello! Didn't even realize I had a photobucket account. Thank heavens for Firefox's saved passwords. Love it.

Got some more done today. Seems I've grown bored with my other distractions and am finding time nowadays. Hit the highlights on the metals more with Polished Silver 9054. It does show up better now, so I'm going to leave it at that. Then put a base coat down on the hilts and handles, 3/4 Ancient Bronze 9049 and 1/4 Chestnut Gold 9073. Then hit that with some highlights of New Gold 9051, which I also did for the scabbard on the small knife, and the decorative band on his leg. What is very interesting to me is that in the photos, that metallic paint looks like straight on lemon yellow. Probably just the cell phone camera. At submission time, I'll work a lot harder to get those to show up better. Not sure if I'll put a wash on the bright gold either. I like how it looks in hand, all bright and shiny. I'd really like to convey that this guy is narcissistic, and he'd really like the shiny.

Things I know I need to do/fix: hair (black with some graying) His right hand glove needs to blend the two colors a bit more. Too harsh right now. Paint some flesh in the back of his left knee; poor guy seems to have some necrosis there! Paint the claws on the fur, and on the mace. Paint the leather wraps on the weapons. Probably going to paint the broach/whatever on his front sash; thinking of doing some red gems. Missed a spot of paint on the handle of the mace.

Well, that was a lot longer list than I actually thought it was going to be. And here I was deluding myself that I was getting closer. Pics:

Started a little work on what will become bushes. Not really happy with them right now, but they're just meant to hold the flocky bits.

First off, started with some leftover kitchen renovation wire. PIA to get loose, but very very handy. Very very sharp too. No blood in this picture.

f6c0d7a3.jpg

Bent and twisted it together to form the armature. They're going to be rather dumpy thickish bushes it appears from the start of bulking it out.

And from there it was finished and into the oven for my usual Sculpty burn job. Yes, yes, I know I could have just boiled them, but I'm lazy.

I'd almost say I did that on purpose, so I don't have to prime and paint. Buuuut, I'm going to prime and paint them anyway. I've got some green bush flock that'll be covering most of what you can see here so I'm not that concerned with things.

And if they suck, they'll be put aside for something sadder.

And speaking of sadder, I completely forgot! I was going to make "The Sad Wire" mini I joked about in another thread! Damn, damn, damn. *sigh* Oh well. Next time. +1 pts for 29 Total.
