people who vote with bad intention

It is difficult to understand but I am sure that there are people who vote with 1 or 2 to get the other minis\'s rating lower..I think this is so sad...I think that those people should be angry with the world or something similar because I cannot understand why a 8,5 miniature can be down to 8,3 with only one vote more...

Yup, this as been discussed often enough here on the forums that it has its own name.

They refer to it as \"sniping\".

It is a shame, but unfortunately a reality.

Apparently though, after 50 or so votes, it doesn\'t really matter.

As I understand it...

Once you have more than 50 votes, which all your minis have, then there is an algorythm in the system which will eliminate stray votes too far outside an acceptable range. You should find your vote rises within a day or so. Fingers crossed

Well...As I said in the past I\'ve been a sniper sometimes...Tho even if I saw the light since and stopped (now I prefer to prowl in the forums ),I\'d like to say that some people here call on their friends (and few have a lot!) to vote quickly for their minis to have a really good average and thus \"influence\" the votes (and why not hope in better sales on e-bay posting their good average as soon as possible)...That\'s why I sometimes felt like a vigilante and counter-balanced few averages I was really thinking not to be deserved...Well now I don\'t feel ashamed at all (okay I admit a bit) as I never sniped starters or already bad scored minis...In fact I was more ready to encourage them.My favorite targets weren\'t not among the top ten either(they seem to be all cool or at least enough intelligent to avoid being pretentious)...My victims were more people too sure of their \"skill\" or really boring whiners \"sharing\" their minis but in fact just hoping to be well-rated...
Now I mostly vote on greens (okay I ever voted mostly on them) and browse only that gallery and the Scratchbuilt and Other ones...
Damn! I had been told not to say that again cause last time I did I have been sniped a lot.lol
Well I hope despite me admitting all that,we\'ll meet in french GD Banshee.

PS:This explanation isn\'t meant neither to excuse all snipers nor me...I realize there are here few \"kids\" jealous or limited cause the mini you post isn\'t in their army list...But I also know few people very harsh and these ones I think they should explain themselves cause some of their points are not as senseless as some could think...

I\'m more of the opposite of snippers (I tend to vote higher than average) I\"ve only voted less than a 5 on several occasions when It wasn\'t even fully painted, and on those occasions I\'ve commented so. I don\'t agree with the way some people vote on minis. I tend to think that tabletop quality is basically anything that\'s fully painted, and I don\'t take away points for bad pics unless it\'s a blurr (even then I will point it out).

The way the voteing system is now is that it will normally get rid of stray votes, as posted above, and it seems to work well. those people who do snip are just wasteing their votes.

Accountability would be cool I think. This could happen one of two ways.

One, show the last 10, 20, 1000, 4, whatever votes the mini has received and who voted. This would remove the anonymity for a little while and snipers could be identified and asked what their reasons were. Big con I see with this one is a PM frenzy from people who don\'t like a vote PM-ing everyone who doesn\'t give a 9 or 10.

Two (my favorite), Require anyone who wants to submit a vote more than say 1.5 or 2 points away from the current average to comment as well. Sure, some people would rather not comment, but this will mean only the incredibly bold or those with a legitimate reason (the only ones I give are to any mini that makes me turn my head to look at it) will try and vote to alter the average rather than vote to give their opinion on the mini.

Well as I seem to be one of the lone snipers to have explained why I did it in the past I feel very concerned by such a way of talking...It would seem that this attitude becomes here on CMON more and more frequent.I mean insult people when you disagree with them.Now I shouldn\'t complain as this is a sentence I can understand.More subtle sarcastic remarks I sometimes can\'t.However I hope I have misunderstood the sentence once again so tell me if I have been wrong.:innocent:

@PF, I applaud your honesty. I\'ve also given 1\'s and 2\'s when minis were extremely poorly painted AND extremely poorly photographed. On the other hand, I also give out more 9\'s and 10\'s than some people, when I really love a mini.

I was a little sad to hear than some of my votes might be \"ignored\" if they were too far from the average, but I understand why that is necessary. Anyway, all I can do is vote what I feel.

As far as sniping or rewarding goes, I don\'t worry about it. I am a believer in the \"with enough votes it all evens out\" mentality. Sometime I am disappointed with my scores, but if I am honest I can see that when the masses have spoken, they have rated my minis fairly.

I have to agree with the sentiment. This site is meant to be a place to \"Show Off\" your minis. If the person posting the mini does not care enough to correctly orient the picture, I will deduct poonts from my score, as I do for out of focus pics, and pics with horrible backgrounds. It does not take a lot of extra time to place a neat background behind the mini, get it in focus and then \"photoshop\" it to rotate it.

If people are willing to take the time to try to paint better, than why can;t they take the time to post better quality pictures? My personal pet peeve....???

You don\'t need to use Photoshop to rotate it Jack any windows viewer gives this ability especially if using XP also you can use programs such as AC DC for this ability as well as scrolling through your photos.

I know I may be a little too generous in some of my voting, but heck, it makes me happy to see a cool mini, even if it is not painted to \'perfect\' standards.

For the longest time, I felt guilty giving some minis even as low as a 4, but I overcame that misplaced guilt. I think the lowest I have given though, is a 3....

I think you will find that there is several articles on site to do with Photoshop that will help you, but the basic that I use all the time is Shift + Ctrl + L this will adjust your lighting. After that its up to you what you do with it make a montarge etc.

however, there\'s many personal opinions involved in a voting on CMoN.

maybe it\'s a personal liking...maybe it has awesome NMM....maybe someone hates NMM....whatever the reason, just don\'t snipe for the sake of doing so. After all, it\'s the fruit of someone\'s labour. If you\'re going to give terrible score, then it\'s either cos it\'s really terrible or poorly photographed (can\'t see a sh*t!).
