Peter & Tracy\'s encounter with the Dark Lord himself

We had been travelling long and hard and were weary. Upon entering a lift which promised to take us to a place of food and goodies.... we held our breath in horror as the Dark Lord himself entered beside us.

We stood, whispering in hushed tones to ourselves \"Is it Him?!\" \"who?!?\" \"VADER!\" \"Oooh is it?!?\". When the lift came to a standstill, he exited and we followed, keeping a discreet distance.

Eventually I plucked up the courage and shouted \"Mr Prowse!\" The Dark Lord stopped and looked around, I felt a lump in my throat. Was I experiencing the powers of the darkside? No...I\'d just swallowed my polo a bit too quick in all the excitement

We stood excitedly as Darth Vader graciously gave us his autograph (twice!) - on lovely \'Vader\' cards he happened to be carrying ;)

I think all this \'darkside; stuff is silly - he was a really nice bloke. I mean... fancy thinking someone can be so menacing just \'cos they are dressed all in black and about 7\' tall huh?? He was a pussycat and.... *cough*....very...*gag*... approachable and not *gasping for breath* at all....*turning a funny shade of blue*.... frightening  EEEK!!!

You know...mind control is a funny thing and not something I believe in at all lol

Now where has Peter got too.... he promised to show me his lightsabre...

Dave who!??!

The physical appearance of Darth Vader ie the bloke in the costume was played by Dave Prowse aka The Green Cross Code man :D

Wasn\'t Mr. Prowse....

An Olympic athelete at one time as well?

I\'ve heard him on a radio talk show, seemed to be a very gracious man.

You probably made his day as well....

I am thinking he doesn\'t accidentally carry \'Vader cards\' around with him. Top bloke though nevertheless:D

No accident....

I was happy enough for him to sign my diary and he said \"I have cards!\", so I know he was definitely prepared! Plus he was on his way to appear at Star Force 2005 in Ghent, Belgium along with Jeremy Bulloch, who I would have loved to have met and got his autograph too.

For the benefit of Simon - he played Bobba Fett!! :p

Peter and I were on our way to Antwerp to meet Filip and Gerrie aka Tuubje and Corvus respectively and we bumped into Vader at Brussels.

I assume that\'s the guy that played Boba in the originals, thay\'ve changed the voice in the DVD release to be the same as Jango in the new ones, since he\'s supposed to be a clone. harsh for the original guy :~(

Actually, that\'s the guy who played the body of Boba Fett in the originals.
The voice was Jason Wingreen, and in the special edition extra appearances a couple other people provided the body.

If you look at IMDB for Boba Fett, you will find 14 different people credited. Only a few of those are from fan films.

If you think changing Boba\'s voice is bad, I just learned that the DVD of Jedi replaced Sebastian Shaw with Christiansen!

ah that explains it...

I just recently watched the \'original\' Star Wars trilogy.

I thought Boba Fetts voice did sound exactly like the \'new\' Jango Fetts voice. I just figured they had used the same guy...duh.

Here is an interesting blurb on that IDMB page about David Prowse...

When Sebastian Shaw was revealed in \"Return of the Jedi\" as the \"man behind Darth Vader\'s mask\", Darth Vader became the first recurring role in a movie series to be played by three actors at the same time: body by Prowse, voice by James Earl Jones, and face by Sebastian Shaw.

But, now because of the new ending in \'return of the jedi\' there were actually four actors playing in the same film of the same character. Kinda cool.

David Prowse incidently was the weightlifting champion for Britian many times.

Do you ever get the impression that all this buggering about with classic films is devaluing them in some way?! Kinda get the feeling it\'s just another way to milk the saps who lap up Star Wars stuff. Can\'t they just leave things be? Hell it\'s like changing history to suit the present... hang on... that\'s usually an American thing anyway ain\'t it?!

lol

Ooo, very much so, Sturm! Look at all those extra figures Lukas crammed into the revamped version of the original...

\"See, this is how I wanted to do it in the first place....\"

I see you\'ve read an American history book, huh? ;)

I remember learning History growing up in the \'60s and \'70s -

There was this big explosion...
the Earth formed...
Dinosaurs roamed the Earth...
The Dinosaurs died out and mammals evolved...
Apes evolved into humans...
Fire was discovered and the wheel was invented...
The Phoenetians invented the alphabit and the Babylonians wrote a code of laws...
Egyptains made mummies...
Greeks invented philosophy...
The Romans threw Christians to the lions, then became Christian...
The barbarian hordes overan Europe and the world went into the Dark Ages...
Then there was the Renaissance and some stuff was invented...
And finally Christopher Columbas \'discovered\' America...

\"Now class... this is where actual history begins...\" ;)

They go over that first part in a couple of minutes, then drill the \"United States is God\'s chosen land\" for the next 12 years.

oh... did I forget to mention the part where they tell us our history is different then everybody else\'s because their governments lie to their people? But like Superman, our Gov\'t believes in truth, justice, and the American way. :p

Of course, our founding fathers never counted on the Internet...

A few years ago the studio that produces Star Trek was having a display at a big amusment park of alot of Star Trek stuff. They had a few guys dressed as Klingons . The display was inside of a tent and the day was opressively hot. They were playing up the Klingon role, talking in those beastly voices, intmidating the kiddies, they were great. I came up to one (I\'m abuot 6 ft. and the guy towered over me) and said \"must be pretty hot in that suit\". He kind of glowers at me, looking real intmidating, pauses, and in a real deep voice says \"yyeeeeesssss\". Hilarious.lol

How do we Americans stand it here, with our bad beer, and revisionist historians??

Next thing will probably be how our football really isn\'t football at all.....;)

It infuriates me that Lucas is retroactively altering the original SW films to tie them in to the new ones, while at the same time making it almost impossible to watch those originals in their original form. He\'s basically destroying a part of movie history to feed his own creative ego - and the fact that it was him who made that history doesn\'t excuse the behaviour! This is why I\'m eventually going to have my pre-Special Edition VHS tapes transferred to DVD (whenever I can afford it). Lucas can\'t force me to watch his sucky \"new vision\" of the original trilogy just by limiting access to the digital format.

*waves hand slowly using while talking*

You will watch and accept the new editions.

You will buy all the editions, in both widescreen and pan and scan version.

These aren\'t the droids you\'re looking for.

(now what do you say for yourself, smartie pants!!)
