Well, as some of you know I lost almost everything I owned this jan.

Since then I replace my computer and have been filling up an 80gig drive so I can replace all the data I lost.. now 80 gigs wouldn\'t cover it but I figured I\'d get close

79.5 gigs later... this evening my hd fails... YAY.. well this now means I have no primary harddrive. So I will be scarce for a bit till I get my computer back up again. Needless to say I am sure some will not miss me and some will. To those who do miss me, know that I will be back.. to those who don\'t miss me... know that I will be back :).

either way I am MIA for about a week. :(

Well good luck to you !!! And a week is not that long anyway, that\'s all I\'ve left of vacation, and said that way it sounds terribly short.

Backups! Have you never heard of this?

Its those bats in your attic. That bat poop puts off fumes that are bad for PC\'s.

I\'m going to be out a little while too...

As I\'ll be in the process of moving, and I\'m not sure I\'ll be able to take the internet without DSL. It\'s come to the point where it\'s like seeing a celebrity without they\'re makeup on. Maybe I\'ll learn to stomach it a little while

Anyone else find these \"mean time before failure : 100,000 hours\" labels on hd boxes laughable ? So far I\'ve burned one per year, every year since 1998. Usually in the summer, though my current hd seems to be resisting the urge.

What I mean is, I feel your pain.

You weren\'t serious when you said you\'d come back right? And there I was glad to hear you\'re finally gone! :p

Luckily I haven\'t had any trouble with any of my harddrives since I got my first computer which was around 1997. The hardrive gods have had mercy with me.

Whatever do you DO with those HDs? Ye gods, get a quality one, mine survived a falling lawnmower (Don\'t ask). I just switch my HDs sometimes for a bigger/faster one....

Smoth, you\'ll be back. Posting here is an addiction. Mark my words. You\'ll be back.

Back in my day...

We didn\'t even have 1\'s, just 0\'s. And sometimes we\'d run short and have to use O\'s instead :bouncy:

Sorry to hear about your troubles Smoth. Return hurriedly. You too, DennisMech. This place needs all the jim/james/jimmy\'s it can get :D

Just Os...LUXURY!

When I wert lad, I used to programme on pieces of card by filling in boxes with a 4B pencil. You try telling that to the youth of today and they wont believe you...;)

Yeah and I remember carrying very basic programs around on a l o n g roll of yellow punch tape. Then of course you\'d go to read all of that back in so you could debug and *munch* the reader would eat the tape and you\'d get to type it all back in again, and usually ended up with an even buggier version. I\'m not a good typist. Hope you come out of the other side soon!

Falling Lawn mower?
You have to explain that one lol

Actually, it wasn\'t even a lawnmower. It was more of a... no idea what it is called in English, in German it\'s \"Vertikutierer\". Basically it\'s a small \"plough\" to provide the ground with oxygen.

Short version of the story: My HD was lying on the floor and I was in the bathroom, minding my own beard trimming business when my father, who was assembling the Vertikutierer, had a little finger slip and dropped that thing directly on top of my HD.

As I ahve already said, the HD survived and the Vertikutierer did too.

You had pencils? Luxury... We had to use a dull, pointy object to poke holes in cards to write our programs. ;)
