Phoenix Lord Karandras

Hello folks. Long time since my last submission. Been buried deep in commissions and have started a few Golden Demon entries. (As much as I want to share those, they are super-secret until the day of the show! :))

Here\'s a commission that I thought turned out rather nice. The color scheme was inspired by Cheeba\'s Hassassin Fiday.

Thanks and happy painting!

That\'s a subtle green worked in there Matt.
I do think that some people will miss it due to variations on monitors, which is a shame. (I nearly missed it and had to go back and look again)

Karandras is one of those \"Must Paint\" models and lends itself to some really good technique applications.
Nice Piece. V\'d it.

Thanks DR =)

The green I used was Vallejo 095 Dark Green. It\'s pretty close to Catachan Green, I really like it. Very unique color for an Eldar model, that\'s for sure. I think it makes them look more \"gritty\", I guess.

Very different from the other versions of him I\'ve seen. I really dig the muted green, and the brighter green really draws the eye. Great job!

Nice! :) subtle and interesting work.

However I think it woul have worked even better with no vivid green on the base.

Even though the painjob is excellent and the composition great I can\'t help thinking it kind of lack the \"something\" your minis normally have. Not really sure why, maybe it\'s too monocrome for my liking or maybe it\'s just the mini it self I don\'t really care for.
I appriciate the hard work and excellent technique, no doubt about that. But if I had not seen it was from a painter who\'s work is normally worth having a look at I think it would have been lost in the many of minis you see every day. And might not had stopped to have a second glance to see all those details. So I recon in the end it\'s (as always) down to personal preference.

Excellent choice of palette and application. I\'m fond of subdued colours too, though the bright green on the armour and sword \'ping\' nicely.

Thank you all for the kind words :)

@Avelorn- I agree with you. The mini is intended for gaming though, and needed to match the rest of the army\'s basing style. I would have probably done a ruined city type base, had it been mine for display.

@Manus- I know what you are talking about. On most of my miniatures I use a lot of purple for shading, and this one I did not. I also normally highlight up to Elf Grey, a light blue grey, and on this miniature I used Vallejo 106 Green Grey. There\'s sort of a different mood in this one than my normal minis. Thanks for the feedback :)

Thanks! Yeah I\'m not too fond of space elves either, for the most part (I\'m more of a fantasy gamer anyway). Despite all that I have painted (upwards of probably 3000 miniatures so far) this is one of about 20 Eldar models I have had the opportunity to paint. They really just call for that \"highlight-up-to-white-on-all-the-edges\" \'Eavy Metal style of painting, and with all the gems they make for some striking, eye-popping pieces.

Cheers!
