I don\'t mean to sound like a dolt here but I gotta say I\'m surprised. It\'s certainly a beautiful figure, but not what I\'d expect from the Spanish Slayer Sword.
I\'ve always thought the Spanish guys to be among the best but I regularly see better blending and freehand work on this site. Maybe I\'m the only one who feels this way? ???

The face is superb!
It\'s a small mini and with the photo at this size it still looks really smooth. Just squint at the screen (or look at it from further away) and you get a better idea of the contrast and quality.

Ya, amazing quality! Sure wouldn\'t want my pics blown up to that size. I\'d love to see that in real life just to see the blending. Wonder how many hours it took.

Two thumbs up for a brave choice. It\'s a painting competition afterall... and I wish i could see this piece IRL. Jaume Ortiz has reputation of being amongst the best but I haven\'t had the chance to see his minis IRL. Hopefully I get the opportunity during World Expo.
@mattrock: When you see miniatures IRL the blending thing get cleared up. Usually the ultrasmooth blending you see is more due to the camera smoothing it out (and size of picture). Sure there are exceptions like Allan C and Cyril, but technically this is about as good as it gets.. especially considering the contrast and size of miniature.
Yeah...I agree that it is still a beautiful model...I\'m just saying I\'m surprised that it was the MOST beautiful model in the entire Spain competition. IRL I\'m sure that the blending looks quite smooth and I think the face is fantastic.
That said I still think that the blending on the sword (particularly of the highest highlights right at the base of the blade) seem to fall short of the work of folks like cyril or Sebastian or even Arjay who have some of their work showcased here in nearly comparable size in some cases.

I was kinda underwhelmed as well, however this model is gorgeous..the face is spectacular.
I kinda like Allan C\'s sculpted daemonette...but maybe in the close up/full photos we\'ll see that isn\'t as nice as this one or something?
Also, not many pics at creafigs or spanish team yet so have no idea on most of the entries.

@Mattrock: Well you just picked 3 painters that woud probably qualify for the top 5 most technical painters so... But seeing miniatures IRL is another matter as well as in photos. There are always trade-offs... like contrast vs. technique etc.
@Starfyre: it was in Open as well, so it could never get a sword. Maybe it was because of IP that it only got bronze? Or that the sculpt wasn\'t to the judges taste. Paintewise Allans miniatures just look better up-close from my experience... (I was fortunate enough to see the other Deamonette in good lighting at the Ravage Mix Open, holding it in my own hands)

It was a gorgeous model, absolutely stunning up close... it took about a week (60hrs total) to paint (heard second hand from the guy who won) There was some other amazing stuff there, especially in open.
The Daemonette was in open... but, and correct me if I\'m wrong, it\'s a resin copy, commercially obtained, from a non-GW source, and was painted in the exact same scheme as the original which already won last year. AFAIK (and I could be wrong) it shouldn\'t have been allowed in the comp, any more than a Rackham figure... lovely as it was.
There were some very very very strange things going on with the judging including rules being ignored and changed seemingly willy nilly... but that\'s for another thread.
I think the look of utter shock and disbelief on the winner\'s face, let alone everyone else\'s... when he got the sword, said a lot

@rocketandroll: No afaik this variant hasn\'t won anything, this is the second Deamonette Allan sculpted and looks like the original paintwork by Allan. But I agree it was cast up by another manufacturer and should probably not be in the competition.. or maybe it\'s the other way around.. it shouldn\'t have been cast up!

the only other daemonette i know from last year was allan\'s sculpt from paris gd that won him the sword in 2007.
i thought allan sculpted this new daemonette and casted it in resin.
I have emailed him; i hope he responds...I want to buy one, if he has indeed cast them for sale.
if anyone knows where to get it, let me know

Allan\'s Daemonette was produced by JMD minis. I just went to their site and the fig is no longer for sale. I\'m guessing the GW IP police may have paid them a visit.
I guess Allan thought that if the fig was an IP infringement then logically it could be entered as a scratch-build at a GD.
GW may not have seen it that way...

I just checked.. and they seem to have removed it from JMD miniatures that sold them..
