Photobucket?

After slaving with pictures for several hours I´ve FINALLY managed to get all the relevant pictures put together in a montage which is 600 pixels wide.

Because it´s more than 200kb I have to host it from my photobucket account, BUT for some reason when I upload it to photobucket it gets scaled down to only about 180 pixels wide--> you can´t see what´s on the pictures.

What should I do?

- Yup I know I´m a computer-moron :p

Right click, view image? I know flickr has different sizes that one must select. Not sure about PB.

I had the same problem with PB recently, im not really sure why they do that. Probably trying to make more people upgrade to Pro :(

Im sure it wasnt always like that though, and since they have introduced \'comments\' to the site it seems to be going down the shitter (i mean, its a photo hosting site FGS, they seem to be trying to turn themselves into some sort of social networking site now :()

Just host your pics here. Much less hassle in the long run.

Yea, but hes saying his pic is more than the 200kb limit and, having tried to get a decent pic reduced to that filesize myself it just ends up looking like a dodgy phonecam shot or else resised to look like a postage stamp.

yea - Letting Cmon hosting the images makes the pictures some what worse :(

I´ve tried Flickr now, and it seems it´s even worse, so I guess it´s something I´m doing wrong :p

I have amontage I´ve made that´s 8.8 MB, and 1500 x10000 pixels, and for some reason it becomes a 150 x 1000 picture (tiny) when it gets uploaded to photobucket...

Anybody with an idea what I´m doing wrong?

PB works well... you just have to look at a pull down menu to the right lower part near the upload-button and change the picture upload to the max of 1 MB - that should stop reseizing most of the pics... 8,8 MB is way to much i guess it\'ll take a month to load the full pic...

Just try this... hope you\'ll find the pull down menue, if not let me know i\'ll take a screen shot for you...

One other thing you can do is swap your filetype. 8.8 MB sounds like you have it as a bitmap, and while BMP\'s contain the most information that makes \'em HUGE. All my voteable photos are hosted on CMON as PNG files--a good bit more compact, and designed to be thrown around networks quickly. Don\'t do JPEGs, though; they are the most compact, but use an approximation algorithm that fuzzes out fine details.

One note: I just checked, and most of my images are about 1.5 MB, and were not changed during upload. Either it is indeed a file issue or I\'m just a lucky bastard...

So you\'re all shooting RAW or tiffs then?

Cos if not, then you\'re getting jpegs straight out of your camera. There is absolutely nowt wrong with jpegs! If they\'re not coming out right, it\'s because you aint doing it right.

You can put together a montage of 600x2000px and keep it under 200kb with little loss of quality through compression. Use Save For Web in Photoshop.

And we moderators wonder why the same images keep up coming up for re-approval as broken because they take so long to load.

I\'ll second \"Save for Web\" in PS. A combination of PS (for resizing, level adjustment and saving) and Irfanview (for dirt-simple montages) has always worked very well for me. It\'s taking decent pix in the first place that foozles me!
