Photograph problems

Hi iv just bought a new camera today, a Fuji FinePix S5600, iv taken these photos of the same mini, both were taken on aperture mode with slight tweaking to the white balance and shutter speed, but one was witht he flash and one without. I cant seem to get a happy medium, the colours on the darker photo are true to life ish, but the blends on the lighter one are more accurate. I seem to need to find a hapy medium, does any body have any settings that they use for photograping minis?

What does your setup look like? It seems like you could get more light on the front of the mini.. and to remove glares you can also try to diffuse the light a bit, making it softer.

I would advice from using a flash. And also a pure white background can confuse the cameras. You can try using a neutral grey or gradient backdrop. Using white paper under and around the mini is however a good idea as it helps the light bouncing from the light and onto the miniature.. also removing glares. That\'s why my backdrop goes from white to pale blue for example (and that it looks spiffy). I get white under the mini but blue in the background.

I\'m still playing around with my pics..
I have the same camera..
Thanks to various peoples help on this site here is what I have settled on ..
Set to P
shift up key so bottom number reads F8
Using a tripod I enter menu and set 2 second delay.
Make sure auto focusoff.
Macro on
use a blue grey background
WB on auto and do a half press against pure white to set it.
point at main area of focus (head or midriff)
point and click.
Adjust exposure with the little plus minus button at the top.and take shots to steps either way.
Seems best about 4\" from the model.

Anyway as I say still playing around with it and nowhere near perfect but will have some pics up soon with these very settings..

I reckon once settings are found it\'ll be a good camera but it\'s a fiddly SOB.

I will update you with any other settings I have success with and if poss you please do the same ..
cheers

not sure if your camera has it, but there may be a setting to see how you weigh the light. If it is measuring light from a large box or several small boxes across the screen, your camera may be fooled by the light background and underexpose the mini. If you have the option of setting a smaller box in the middle, I\'d use that.
