Photoshop Challenge

OK since it\'s pretty obvious that some of the people here want definitive proof one way or another that you can make a model 8+ with Photoshop, I would like to start a challenge of sorts. Post images of a miniature, primed black or (preferably) white and I\'ll see what I can come up with and I just might time myself for the heck of it. Anyone else with experience is welcome to \"compete\" too.

Also, if you could make something distinct in the background so you can more easily scrutinize the pic, then that\'d be appreciated... whether the mini is just photographed in front of a piece of graph paper or something with writing on it or whatever. Just so it\'s harder to cut and paste from another source mini, ya know :)

And please don\'t post some horribly complicated mini... so no crazy complicated Wulfen or a Dragon or anything like that. Just a 28mm guy or gal on foot will suffice :D

OK my part is done for now, thanks :flip:

oooh. i wish my digicam worked. i have to say that i am more than a little interested that someone has taken up to the challenge. just make sure that you make it obvious that the mini is \'photoshopped\' otherwise someone will probably get hacked off. not me though - make sure you tell us when youre done - good luck!!

Jericho, you are \'da man\'!

I would love to offer you a mini to experiment on, but all my stuff is in storage at the moment. Perhaps I can find something from the web however...

I think it\'s great that you have offerred to do this for us. It should end all argument once and for all. I don\'t care if my original premise is proved wrong. It would just be great to know one way or the other.:flip:

Jericho, Try this one.
necro1.jpg

This fig is currently on CMON and rating a 4.7 This Heartbreaker fig is currently the only one like it on CMON.
( one of my earlier works.... no really:rolleyes: :innocent: lol )
I suggest you do your Photoshop magic on it and, just for fun, submit it with no explanaition. Lets see what the rating would go up to after a week or so.... :innocent: :p lol

Would this sort of thing be any good?

This is a plain unpainted mini from the i-kore catalogue. I don\'t think they would mind this or a similar item being used for your demonstration. Good publicity, especially as they are too lazy to paint it up themselveslol

jericho

I am not too sure about putting it up as a kosher job though. People who had voted and commented in good faith might feel a little hacked off about being deceived. Or perhaps I am just too PC?

Heh, the Ikore fig would be so much easier to do... I\'ll still try to do something with that 4.7 though. Is there even paint on the metal sections? If not then it\'s gonna be real rough to make that chainmail work :D

I\'ll see what I can do later tonight, I have to finish up a couple minis for a game or two this evening :)

Hey, you take your time.

Jericho, no rush...You are doing us all a very big favour here.
We aren\'t going anywhere:bouncy:

And choose whatever is easiest for you. I think all Lurch and I would like to see is a demonstration of what Photoshop can achieve in skilled hands.:flip:

cool...

Finn, this is exactly what you have asked for time and time again.

I can\'t wait to see how this baby turns out.....

The IKore model should look pretty cool, I\'m still thinking about what colors to use. I suppose it doesn\'t matter since when I do the overlay I can just alter the color balance however I wish :D

There\'s plenty more where that came from..

Jericho, I-kore have typically got a (old,-but latest if you get my drift) catalogue that is full of unpainted minis. Humans robots Celtos you name it. It is no longer available online I think, but if you have a preference for type of model, I can email you a choice.

Anything to facilitate:bouncy:

Just too funny an idea!

I couldn\'t resist myself. I had to try this idea out, too.

Here\'s the results of about 30 minutes in the GIMP (a Photoshop type application, but free).

I wouldn\'t rate something like this at more than a 4, maybe even lower. It was a fun excercise, tho... ;)

The only problem I see with your post is that it looks too much like the original... which is just inked metal. There\'s no \"brushed on\" style hilights it still looks like inked pewter. The gun looks great like that, but the rest is kinda obvious. For half an hour though? Pretty damn slick :)

I\'ll post mine later, was out quasi-late and am going out again tomorrow. Gotta actually get some painting done sooner or later... nothing super high quality but stuff I might actually use in a game some day. I\'m in a campaign and I can barely make the point requirements :D

i think the model looks great but as jericho says - it looks like inked metal rather than blue paint. the gun looks fanatastic. i\'d give it a 6lol

Hmm...not bad...

If I was just ploughing through the minis in my usual manner. I can\'t honestly say that this one would leap out at me as being manipulated, although I wouldn\'t rate it above a 5, because there is something \'not quite right\' about it.
But still, damned impressive for half an hour.:flip:

not bad?

If I had saw this mini while voting on hoards of others, I would have given it a 7 and probably left a comment about it having excellent NMM on the gun!;)

But, mind you, this only took 30 minutes!

And, we all know while looking at it, that it was \'photoshopped\'.

I can\'t say I could have spotted anything odd while casually looking at it. I freely admit that I would have been duped by this if posted as a \"normal\" mini.

This makes me a little nervous, I had always scoffed at the idea that someone could \"photoshop\" an 8 or 9 mini. I figured it would be very obvious, now I am not so sure.....

Yeah, at least you didn\'t go and start a whole thread about it though:duh:

If Lurch lived a bit nearer, I\'d probably be round there now cleaning his carlol
