Pics of my first \"wet-feathering\" attempt.

OK... here it goes...
I attempted to mimic, EricJ\'s procedure:
http://wyrd-games.net/showthread.php?t=92

My initial thoughts, it let me smoothly blend colors, much better than layering... using 20-30 wet layers, and feathering away the paint with a second brush.
After, I noted chalky and grainy looking texture...
I base coated in shadow grey, and wanted to blend into bleached bone. Should I have base coated in bleached bone, and just shaded with shadow grey, to avoid the chalky look?
Also, when it comes to feathering and absorbing the wet paint, I do not follow any stroke pattern and also drag my brush sideways... perhaps another cause to the problem...

But, here is my process somewhat:
First: My choice of BRAND NEW GW brushes...

Second: Following EricJ\'s procedure... The fine detail, and small dry brush are chosen... I figure the detail brush just applies the wet paint, so it can be messy?

Third: My dilution process... I take the tip of an old brush and dab mini-drops of distilled water...10 in all onto my palette, and one paint drop goes on the brush tip last... room for improvement...
34757%3B%3B75%7Ffp345%3Enu%3D3288%3E563%3E274%3EWSNRCG%3D323392%3B666%3C%3B%3Bnu0mrj

Stirred up

Consistancy Shot... Cabin is a fully loaded brush stroke. Museum is a brush stroke after the paint was dabbed off a bit. Looks thin enough for bleached bone???

Finally... Legs recieved about 30 \"wet-featherings\", I pretty much go non-stop... Probably wipe off the brushes every 10 layers. Poor quality pics =(

These pics really do a bad job of showing the smooth color transition, and the chalky texture... Also, I might note, I DID NOT paint the back of the leg, only front half.

The pictures truly stink, but lighting and focus are a bitch and I haven\'t done my reading yet on solving the photography problem.
Anyways... thoughts? ideas? input?
I am going to finish the mini anways for practice, using bleached bone on all the shadow grey parts...
Any ideas for the black parts? I was thinking of trying a shadow\\codex grey mix, then stipling \"plasma burst\" camo, of red up to orange. But, since this is pretty much a practice mini... maybe some cool color schemes or easy free hand or NMM attempts are in order someplace?
thanks for any chalky help!

your thinning is perfect, now all you need is more practice. What I can reccomend is to do wet-feathering in sections and do those sections in one sitting so you can keep up with where you placed your layers.
P.S: check this out for cheap W&N\'s
7 to 8 dollar W&N\'s

Yes, thats what I have been doing... since the Stealth suit is very angular, I do one panel at a time... I would guess it takes about 5-10 minutes to do each panel with 30 layers.

But I am still at a loss for avoiding the chalk... whether its my brush, or brush AND stroke? or if its the damned light color I\'m using and the abrupt transition (bleached bone directly over shadow grey.

But thanks for the dilution confirmation, I have read so much on paint thinning lately I was going to shoot myself if I was still getting that wrong.
