Pier - Less

Making progress very slowly. Built out the base and started to paint it. Added some vegetation.
Want to add some floating seaweed, but need to think about how to make it float.
Also the board I build everything on has warped and I need to anchor it to another board to level everything.

Anyone with expertise with realistic water... I'd appreciate some tips. I'm going try two or three pours. Adding less pigment to each one as i layer them. We'll see if it works.

Well that was a freaking disaster!
Carefully sealed the edges so i could start adding the realistic water.
still sprung a leak. Good thing I'm not an engineer.

Lesson learned. the first pour should be tiny!!!

If you have a problem on the first try up you could be an engineer ;). Looks good and clear. Based on the problems I have read about pouring resin on the forums, yours is great and you should be be able to clean up the edges where it leaked.

yeah ive had far more troubles with WE than this, lol, and i am an engineer ;) you can seal it and seal it and seal it and there is still some bloody place where it leak! but the resin will hopefully become rock solid in a few hours/days (depending on resin/clear plasic you use) you should be able to sand it silky smooth.

Well right now I'm waiting for more realistic water to arrive as most of the pour ended up on my work bench. Hopefully the resin will have sealed some of the holes and I will take another shot at sealing it with caulk as well.
I'd like the water to come up to the base of the barnacles. This project has been a lot like most of my home improvement projects. It started small and mutated. Next thing i know I have walls open and killed power to the fuse box. Looking forward to getting it done and hoping it comes together they way it looks in my head.....

Have built up several layers of realistic water. It is coming out less transparent than I had hoped. I guess next time i will use less paint in the mix. what's I'd like to do now is make the surface look less shinny and maybe give it a sense of stagnate water with stuff floating on the surface. Anyone have any ideas on how to do that? Get some dirt and sprinkle it on a thin later of realistic water??

Nice job. The care and effort you've put into the base have really paid off, and I think it makes a nice display for the mini. I like the weathering you've done on the wood of the pier. Did you use the single part realistic water from Woodland Scenics? I've found that it doesn't really harden up all that well, and may continue to shrink over the next few months as it dries out. For deeper water I think you need to take the plunge (see what I did there ;)) and use 2 part epoxy. It will actually harden up better and give you a solid surface, but it's definitely more of a PITA to use.

Solid job on the ork. I like his stripey trousers. Browns for the leather bits are also quite nice. I feel like you need to work on the highlight placement, esp. for the blues on his coat. The metals also need to be given the same care you would give non-metallic areas, eg. layer them up from a darker shade and use washes/glazing. Overall nice job. I hope this was a level-up sort of mini for you and you feel like you learned a lot. :)
