Pimpin\' my paintbrush

Sorry for the topic name, I loved it when the idea came up :D

Ahem. Anyway, I was wondering what I was worth. Well, my paintjobs, actually. The Persecutor in my gallery is a pretty recent work. Actually my newest one is this Persecutor:
Persecutor2CMON.jpg

Well, the picture is bad, but that\'s because I have not yet learned the secrets of photographing inside with only one available lamp with a crappy bulb :p I take most of my photos outside.

I\'m straying.... I was wondering: What would a fair price be for my current level? I am really bad at judging this.... do keep in mind that it seems that I am one of the, if not the best painter in my immediate area.

since you\'re new to thwe game and not a known name at the moment, count on $30 to $50 for that one. not a lot, i know, but you need to build these things up over time, my very first auctions didn\'t even get over £20, and that was with me pimping away that I worked for eavy metal at the time....

Mosch, that avatar looks good on you.

But your photography has to be dead spot on perfect to go with your painting. All the customer will see is the pic.

Selling local at the FLGS will not bring as much as ebay (probably) but your might get large commissions (armies) easier at the local game shop where you can make a name for yourself easier.

Someone told me once that being in the middle of the pack on CMON (me) is not a bad place to be. Better than most local painters - unless you live next to Tammy or DR.

Artists have to suffer to be good. I live in a good neighborhood and can\'t paint.

Tammy... I would have asked for, let\'s say 15€. Maybe 20€ max. 50 for that guy would be a fortune to me.

Really, I am speechless. I will try to sell that stupid commissar on eBay next week (I hate that guy, no idea why, but I hate him), then maybe Eldrad. Let\'s see what I\'ll get for those. I am not really interested in freelancing or doing it professionally, just a little on the side.

Im pretty much in the same boat.
I dont have the time to do it as a sole income(might do soon as my job is looking pretty bleak).
I do think you have to be relative to your market. If someone wants 7 rated Persecuter then you have to charge them according. Now if say you paint this one and ebay it you wont get as much as doing it specifically for someone
Ebay stuff that will sell easy.
Do anything you are confident with for commission.
My 3 pence.:D

Same for me too, though I couldn\'t even boast of any association with the Eavy Metal team. My very first pieces sold for around about £10 each. Then I began pushing towards £20. With a little rep behind me I began to get £30 - £40 a piece. That then increased to £50. Now...? Well, if you\'re interested in a commission, PM or e-mail me!

So, if you use the name \"Pimpin\' my paintbrush\", do I get a cut?

lol

Edit: I can\'t avoid the freelance thing, by the way, by the way. I haven\'t painted for money in seven years, but as soon as word got around I had locals that knew my work talking to me about commision work. I even had one frightening young lad talking to me about needing \"some help\" with his 50000pt Eldar army. Yes, Fifty thousand point army.

After recovering my wits, all I could do was look at him and say, \"I\'ll gladly give you some tips and pointers\" and begging off the conversation.

Be careful what you wish for, friends. Once a paint-pimp, always a paint-pimp, even when you are trying to keep your wayward pigments at home.

...

Though it does beg the question how much money 50k pts worth of eldar paintlovin\' would translate into...

I would think you\'ll get 30 or so for him.

My last figure I put on ebay (Lanarn, my one and only 8 rated piece) went for a grand total of 15 bucks. My experience will probably not match your own, however. :)

Sell it on eBay Germany and you\'ll get €10-15 tops, if at all. The market just isn\'t there.
Probably a bit more on eBay.com but since you\'re selling from Germany some people who are interested might not wanna bid to save possible trouble. Because honestly I don\'t think the paintjob\'s good enough for people to say \"I just HAVE to have this! All else is secondary\", which means your number of interested parties is probably smaller.
But go, try it out.

Just for information: I do not want to sell this Persecutor, or indeed most of my miniatures ;) I was just wondering what about the price for my general skill level of painting would be.
And well, I know I don\'t paint too well. However, considering most of the stuff that is sold on eBay Germany as \"TOP BEMALT!\" would be about a 6 here, I\'ll just give it a try. let\'s see if anyone is interested in my commissar ;) And if it doesn\'t sell I still have my friend to blame who told me he would not want to play IG without commissars :D

You forgot the h in \"Top BEMAHLT!\", and most of that stuff would struggle for a 5 on CMON.

And yeah, I thought you meant exactly this mini and Confrontation stuff generally sells for few bucks, even if they\'re painted quite well. GW however, that\'s another story.
