I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction for finding either pink or blue insulation foam for scenery making. I live in lakewood California (about 30 miles south of Los Angeles) and can\'t seem to find anyplace that carries it.

If anyone in my area has found it - or if you know a way I can get some please let me know. Thanks for your help.

Any hardware store will have it, usually with the roofing or drywall products.
Try Home Depot, Lowes, etc. Beware though that it comes in a sheet that is 8\'x4\'.
For smaller pieces of hobby foam ( white or green 2\'x3\') try your local hobby shop (Michaels, Hobby Lobby, etc.)

Just remember that some of that foam board has paper around it, so try and strip it before you go burning it with a hot wire cutter! Also, the sharper the blade the better for cutting that kind of board, so change yours constantly.

While they do carry foam board, I was thinking more of the sheets of foam you can find in the silk plant areas for arrangements. The stuff comes in a sheet that is about 2\'x3\' or 2\'X4\' and about 1/2\" to 1\" thick. It is pure styrofoam baby !!!

I really don\'t like the plant foam stuff, as it is good and malleable, but the only way to harden it (in my veiw) is to let it soak up a 50/50 mix of water and glue.. And then after that, it\'s still kinda coarse.. I used this in Cyanhur\'s base (#5802), so you are forewarned.. In the future, I might just use plaster and those molds from Hirstarts.

Foam

Lurch had it right. The best place for the pink/blue is at the hardware store - home depot/lowes/fill in your local store here. Runs about $6-10 a sheet around here at those stores and comes with or without a thin metallic insulating cover on it. Those sheets are 4 foot by 8 foot though, so storing them in an apartment might be a little hard.:D

The local hardware stores here don\'t seem to carry it. I have kinda figured that it is a regional thing. It seems to be readily available back east but here in southern california it seems to be impossible to find.

I was hoping someone local was able to get some and might know where I can find it.

Maybe I can see if the home depot here can special order it.

thanks.

Try Home Depot... I know there\'s at least one of those in southern California.

Look in the \'building materials\' section, with al the sheet lumber and such... if you can\'t find any, just complain to someone with an orange apron on.

I have to confess I\'m not sure exactly what you are talking about, but I want to point out that I was in a JoAnn\'s Fabrics store the other day and happened to notice they had a huge variety of sizes and types of both open and closed-cell foam in the back of the store. They expect their customers to cover it in fabric and make seat cushions, window dressings or whatever, but they are a place to look if you are truly desperate.

In california try OSH, the foam is blue not pink I believe. Just talk to the guy in drywall and tell him your looking for sheets of foam insulation. The sheets are like 8\' by 4\' and I usually have to break it before putting it in the car.
