I finally decided to break in the new sculpting tools my wife bought me for Christmas (she got me the deluxe set from Gale Force 9- I highly reccomend them) so I'm going to be following the Pirate Sculpt tutorial from Musketeer Minaitures.
So far I've only completed the first couple of steps- creating the armature and the initial bulking out. While I was taking these pictures I noticed that his pose is off- he's just about falling over backwards, so I'll be fixing that before I do anything else.
The tutorial is for a 28mm figure, but I'm doing this guy as 35mm to the eyes because I feel like I'll do better on a slightly larger scale. I did 28mm with the (incomplete) tutorial from Griffin Guides- I think I did okay, but bigger's a little easier for me right now.
This project may be a little slow as I'm fitting it in between a couple of commissions, but I'll update as often as I can. Feel free to comment and critique as much as you want- it'll help me learn.
