Pity Bids?

Ok I'm going to ask what is probably very strange question, but has anyone ever put in a bid on an item on eBay out of pity for the seller?

Just done that recently on a Rackham figure that was being grossly underpriced in an attempt to boost the sale up.
I ended up winning it for what amounts to little more than the postage.

I'm not complaining, far from it as I'll enjoy painting this fella up. It's just one of those 'things' I guess.

Not quite, although i have been tempted to bid on some really badly painted figures that keep getting re-listed, week after week, just because i am sick of seeing them pop up in my searches.

can't say that I have. If you pick something up on the cheap, cool. I wouldn't bid on something I didn't intend to buy though, pity or not.

That's how I wound up with a violin. Can't say I've bid much on figures. Space ship minis are a bit diff, but for some reason most of those go above retail. Can't understand that. Saw a Forgeworld Tau ship's basic bid (no shipping) go above the combined retail and international shipping cost of the same set. And then there was one this morning for an "OOP" Tau ship... that's still on the GW web store. Uh, huh?

Pity bids, no. So low I have to bid, yes.

I'm more into the "Screw You" bids where if someone keeps outbidding me with their preset higher amount, I bid past what I wanted to, in order to hike the price up.......I have fallen foul to it a couple of times where I've won an item for more than I wanted to bid for.

I have e-mailed a newbie seller over an item that I know is worth much more then what it is up for, usually inclose links to prove my point. The few times that I have done so, I've received a nice thank you back.

So its just me being an old softie then.
Nope. I have been tempted, but oddly enough not where the mini is really cheap. I offered to buy a load of the old citadel squats from a guy several years ago. We couldn't agree on a price, but it looks like they are still on ebay all this time later and there's a small (squat shaped) part of me that keeps thinking about reconsidering.

This is a very similar tactic to what I used during my high school days.

The theory was, If I looked sad and dejected enough, the girls would line up for pity dates.

It never quite panned out.
