Please help with NMM gold

Hey all,

Check out this cool bone armour and spearhead that I painted!

Unfortunately, I was going for NMM gold. After 2.5 hours of painting back and forth, I really need some help getting this to look even a little like metal. Anyone have some time to give a little advice?

Your pic isn\'t working.

A solid recipe for NMM gold is black, Cobra/Snakebite Leather and White.

Start with a black/leather mix.

Highlight with leather.

Further highlights with white/leather mix.

Spot highlights with pure white (I like Ivory White...)

do my gold nmm in the following way, firstly basecoat the gold part with scorched brown, then start layering/blending up with snakebite leather, followed by sunburst yellw/ white mix 50/50, final highlights add more white to the sunburst/white mix, where i felt the transitions werent as smooth as i wanted i mixed some in between colours , an example of a mini i did this way is here

the few times ive done NMM gold ive used the same recipe as spacemunkie. its alot easier then using milloions of colors and pulls it off rather nicely.

by the look of your pic it looks ok.
Things to keep in mind about metals is that they have a strong acceleration of light, and very high contrast. The best thing you could do is have a look at some good NMM. AlexiZ does some great gold NMM, and I belive the receipe spacemonkey as given you is the one she uses too.

Thanks again. I posted the final result (I guess that is overly redundant) here:

After getting your feedback I went back and increased both the dark and light spots, to try to get a more rapid transition. Dang, that was tough! It helped to look at AlexiZ\'s photos too (after I pulled myself out of my deep depression from comparing mine to hers). ;)

Anyway, it looks better I think, thanks to you guys and I\'ll keep working on it.

Yes... For gold NMM I using same colours: Chaos Black, Snakebite Leather and Skull White...
But this is not important... :)

The more important thing is right highliting and shading... Metals with relief has many reflections and highlights... If you know how it must be - no matter what colours you take...
