I can\'t help you as I don\'t feel I have enough of a handle on colour combos but give it a bit of time we are all on different time zones here! Come back tomorrow before deciding everyones ignoring you.

Thats a complex one, but I can see why you would want to replicate it.
This is how I\'d have a go at it

Black primer
shadow grey then mix with
up to space wolves grey, now add the veins in liche purple, making sure you water the paint down so its about 10/1
now I would add some white with the space wolves and water 10/1 ish and glaze over so the veins become part of the skin and finally top highlight with white but only in a few places where the light would hit.
It also looks like there is a wash of liche purple 20/1 would do, but be carefull.
Nice mini and I hope this makes sence
:D

Thanks a bunch for the reply but how thin should eash mix of shadow and space wolves grey should be and how many mixes , like 3:1 , 2:1 , 1:1 and then pure space wolves and should the shadow grey just be showing in the edges and some ridges? Thanks again

As a base coat start with 2:1 or 3:1 with the shadow grey

Leaving the darker bits near the edges and in the folds of the skin

Put some SG on your pallette and mix some space wolves grey with it, this now needs to be about 5:1 put this on the higher areas, and maybe a little nearer the shadows if there too dark

Its up to you how may coats you use but gradually mix more lighter colour in.

Heres a link for layering

To blue and to dark to my view.
I would add a bit of black into your base and then you need to really up the highlights. Look at the bloodthirster, the skin is mainly the very light colour with a mid dark for the shading and very dark only for the deep creases (around the mouth, ears and eyes for example).

well it\'s 2.30am here and I\'m about to go to bed. What I will do is some tests tomorrow after work.

What i would suggest is follow Krom\'s advice above but maybe try highlighting with fortress grey instead of space wolves grey and for the final highlight use straight white but about the consistancy of milk (put bugger all on the brush as well). That way you can influence the colour but can stop before you go all the way upto white.

ok don\'t expect a modern classic but this is what I came up with.
Now I have stuck with some pretty abrupt shading/highlighting. You can add more levels just by mixing the shading or highlighting colour with the colour either above or below it.

So base coat - grey. I use brush on white primer and just add ink and or paint to get the base shade I want - in this case I used black ink + burnt umber.

Base colour. I used 2 parts spacewof grey to 1 part codex grey.

Then shading. My shading colour is codex grey with a bit of blue and black ink. It should look about like this..

fleshtestshading-colour.jpg

I use very thin and have my base colour ready also to help blend it in a bit.

For the first highlight I have used straight spacewolves grey.

And final highlight was with straight white thinned down to skim milk sort of consistency and build up with lots of thin layers.

So that is similar to the skin but not the same. You can add more black to the shading colour for the deep recesses. Also spend a bit more time than I just did blendingyour various levels togeather and you should get pretty close.

EDIT: now looking at the bloodthirster again it has a bit more of a blue tinge, so I would finish it off with a thin blue glaze and then rehighlight with white.

Seems to me that I see a bit of yellow here and there on this as well.
Maybe a final light wash over selected areas or its just my minitor making me see things. Hard to say sometimes.

No you are right. There is also a bit of purple.
It depends on how comfortable you are with your technique really. Some people will add thinned, precisely placed glazes to give the skin a more broken and natural look. After all we are not in fact one single skin tone (no reason to expect demons of the blood god are any different really).

Thanks fo doing this :) .. I too see yellow spots in there and maybe some pink or purple. are these spots just highlights placed in certain spots ?
